Make what you want of the old lies, damned lies and statistics adage, but NRL.com Stats has crunched the numbers to pin-point the area each team must fix in 2018. For the Parramatta Eels, their post-contact metres are a cause for concern.

Parramatta's post-contact metres were one of the few areas they fell down statistically in the 2017 Telstra Premiership, with their 471 metres per game after first meeting the defence better than only the lowly Newcastle Knights and Gold Coast Titans.

In a chicken or egg scenario, the Eels also had the slowest attacking play-the-ball speed in the NRL – averaging 3.66 seconds and ranking 16th for getting a roll on when one or two opposition tacklers were involved.

In defence though, Parramatta did concede the second-fewest post-contact metres in 2017 at 468 metres a game.

  • I'll tell you whose bad in this regard, Kenny Edwards spends a lot of time stuffing around on the ground after tackles especially in the oppositions half.

Plenty of times last year i was cursing him for stopping the flow and speed of our play because he was fucking around oin the ground trying to milk penalties, getting into little tiffs with the tackler and pushing and shoving, he just needs to get on with it, hes giving the opposition valuable seconds to get their defence set, its not just our pack either, our backs were missing that extra spring in their step last year too.

    • Thats why i said we are missing antrue battering ram the other day. Nonone believed me. And Junior Paulo is an option.
    • I agree Snake. It really gives me the shits when players do that. I think the refs are all over that sort of stuff too.

I think you are more likely to get penalties by getting the quick play the balls going and getting a roll on. Catch the defence offside or being lazy.

  • To Kennys credit hes got a high work rate but he really needs to get the nonsense out of his game, including going for silly intercepts that let the pressure off.

Yeah KP needs to quicken up his delivery, its his achillies heal, no doubt him and Brad know that and work on it, KP takes a bit longer as you say with his decision making.

  • I did get frustrated last year letting teams rolling us onto our backs in the wrestle. We were bad at doing it ourselves
  • We need a battering ram
    Junior Paulo anyone?
    • Junior Paulo is the laziest defender in the NRL. If he was still playing for us we wouldn't be so good at getting numbers into the tackle and the opposition's post contact metres would be a lot better.

  • How can Parra have slow play the balls when everyone who supports him says Tim Mannah has the fastest play the ball in the world?

    • He is one forward i think mate, and would not be carting the ball up every tackle. These stats are what we make of them; we still made the top 4 and had our chances....

    • I think Jamesy is a Mannah hater.
