Panthers pull out of three-club race for Eels youngster

Penrith have withdrawn interest in Ethan Sanders. That's a shame, they really need a Halfback too, what happened to their booming junior base that everyone raves about? Parramatta are confident keeping Sanders, hopefully he can play hooker while waiting for the 7 spot from Moses.

  • I would love the club to keep sanders but how long will he be happy to play off the bench for.

    • Jack who's to say what Brown would do with these options he has? Plus Sanders could very well play Hooker? Who knows.

      • Yeah that's very true mate. Never no what the future holds

  • Ethan Sanders would be wise to stay at a strong successful club like the Eels rather than jump at the first chance. Even if he ultimately leaves the Eels, he won't get a better apprenticeship than by learning under Moses, Brown & Trent Barrett.

  • If Sanders is good enough he can push Brown or Moses out of position. If DB improved his passing off the ground he would be a great hooker. I did not like JA pushing DB out of position because DB had more upside in the halves and needed to inprove his game in the halves. Ethan will hopefully stay here and get a handful of NRL games next year but learn his trade mostly in reserves. Look at Walker - moved into NRL full-time too soon. Dylan also arguable could have done better learning his trade in Reserve grade. Best case for Ethan is probably at least a year or two based in reserve grade with an increasing amount of game time in NRL. His path is not blocked at Parra if he is good enough.

  • The Raiders we're going hard for Sanders and I just saw a post that they let their young half sign on in the UK. I'm not sure they would do that unless they had someone else lined up with Wighton moving on next season. Ethan might be headed to the Raiders?

    • Raiders are going to sign Lachlan Lam.

They might sneak Ipape too.might mean that Starling leaves.

  • Sanders has signed with Canberra unfortunately. Should have got rid of Brown and kept this guy instead. This will bite us in a couple of years.

    • Please, my sides are hurting.

      • Why? A good halve is something that this club has failed to develop for decades now. When the rare opportunity arises, I believe you should roll the dice and invest in them. Even if he is simply just 'potential' at this stage, it's not like we have to break the bank for him.

Brown has been in the NRL since 2019 and has shown nothing in big games to suggest that he is a star. Moses has a few years left in him and is still a very good player, but we have had to break the bank for him in a season where we couldn't even make the finals.
