St George Illawarra Dragons have beaten the opposition to sign Russell Packer in a deal worth more than a million dollars once he comes out of prison at the end of the year. The former Warriors prop is still behind bars after being found guilty of punching a man on a night out in Sydney last year and, in the words of the magistrate, Greg Grogan, punching again while the man was "lying motionless on the ground and then stomping on his head". CONFLICTING STORY: Penrith and Packer agree two-year contract Packer has been busy in prison sorting out what his next move will be and Fairfax Media believes he will agree to play for the Red V.
