Everyone knew Klein was going to put the whistle away. Not once did we put pressure on the referee, Penrith sure as hell did. Why the fuck didn't we lay all over them or leave early I'll never know. Gotta learn how to cheat better.
Atkins should never be allowed to referee again! What a disgraceful performance even though none of it mattered!
Buckle up let's go again next year

Refereeing was pathetic and has been all year. Grand Final referees should be neutral maybe a Kiwi ref or a pommy ref for Grand Finals
Wouldn't hurt at all. At the end of the day we have to adapt to the way the referee is refereeing the game. We could of been offside all night, held them down all night yet we let Penrith roll through us. We should of tested Kleins patience.
But FARK ME Atkins needs to be investigated. Ruling Cleary knocked the ball backwards when his hands were clearly dragging forward is nothing short of cheating. Absolutely corrupt to the core.
100 💯 👍
I can't blame the referee. I blame the bush coach and senior players for not going out there with a plan to slow the ruck. It was clear as day light they were faster, stronger around the ruck. We needed to slow them down to give us any real chance. If we are any chance next year, Parra needs to employ a half decent tackling and defensive coach. Also our forwards need to wake up and understand they cannot wrestle in attack. It's not about selfish statistics of post contact metres. The aim of any forwards is to obtain fast play the balls through hitting the defence hard and making sure you don't get into a wrestle or get turned on your back. It's about giving time for your backline to attack a retreating defensive line. Penrith forwards do that so well
Isn't Atkins a lifetime Penrith member or some shit, imagine having him as bunker
Atkins is a life member of Penrith refereeing association http://penrithreferees.com.au/life-members/. The bunker has been hopeless this year, last night it was just one sided.
Penrith ruck speed was faster because we weren't holding down long enough. Funnily enough there was a moment when we were the ones who got pinged by the ref.
In the end, it might be a stretch to say the refereeing cost us the game, but it was biased and because we were not given the opportunity to play on equal footing we just couldn't get into the game and put any pressure on them, which was our only chance.
Cleary was the coach of the refs before starting at Penrith and both Klein and Atkins were there. All the commentators said the line Kiksu ran made it no try and it hasn't been a try all year. Atkins had 1 look at it as he did with everything else that went in panthers favour. That was disgraceful
I don't proclaim to be an expert on the rules but it looked to me that the line Kikau was running was going to avoid Moses altogether (on his outside). It was Moses who initiated the contact by making the decision to tackle him when he never had the ball.
Did Penrith actual get back 10 ever? There were so many 6 again calls ignored.
Ultimately Penrith pushed the rules and got away with it which took all the gas out of our tank, so good on them. We need to be smarter and play with that same aggression in defence slowing the ruck and pushing the 10m. That aggressive defence meant our weapon of second phase play was completely removed. The Riff showed the blueprint to beating us in the first week of the finals and simply did it again.
Agreed 100%; there is also history with I Cleary going off at the refs...we don't.
