out coached

Ivan Cleary would have known that if the Eels had at least 50% of posession that his team would struggle.

It looked like both teams wanted to get points early and then shut the other team down and force them to
play catch up football.

But Penrith were the clear winners with that.

The writing was on the wall as soon as Chrichton scored that first try for Penrith.

The Eels players were simply were not expecting that inside ball from Edwards.
and there was clearly a lack of communication among the Eels defenders as to who was to tackle who.

Cover defence also seemed non existent.

Rarely do you see that type of misunderstanding happening in defence wth Penrith.

I can't recall seeing Penrith use that move before but It's a move thats been used countless
times before by both League and Union sides.

Why didn't the Eels anticipate that? Other prioritie perhaps?

The angled runs of the Penrith forwards also troubled the Eels. The Eels line speed in defence was a bit slow at times.
which wasn't the case the last time the two teams met.

It's all about making the making the right decisions at the right time.

The Eels were clearly rattled for most of the first half so maybe they didn't have they right mental preparation.

But can you prepare for that?

  • The writing was on wall started with Arthur's bench selections. So many games he used only three of his bench players one of them his son who offered nothing. Come grand final day Jnr and Regan both looked burnt out. That to me was his biggest failure.

    • offered nothing really. I was interested to see how the team lifted when he came on. He scored a try and was involved with the other. Penrith had 2 forwards and a reserve back who couldn't make first grade at Parramatta and a hooker. It had nothing to do with the bench. Give the kid a break how many trys have you scored in a first grade grand final??? More the question might be why wasn't he bought on earlier. Still it is an experience Jake will remember forever and I hope it helps him win a grand final in years to come.

      • Penrith had switched off when he chased a kick and scored. He lifted the team when he came on you say you have  got to be joking. How does me not having played first grade got to do with anything where is it written that  you can't have an opinion if you haven't played first grade you moron if that was the case this place would be empty. Give the kid a break how about giving us a break never pick him first grade again.

  • I think we need to be careful saying outcoached. As I have said all year we have a team who on paper over achieved. No Dally M winners, 1 State of Origin player and perhaps 1 player only in the top 3 in their position. It takes a team of champions formed into a champion team to win a NRL grand final. We are a champion team missing the x factor like Benji was for the tigers or Slater for the Storm (and everyone else they had over the salary cap). You probably need 3 or 4 players who are in the top 3 to win a GF. I think the improvement in Dylan Edwards this year was the huge change for Penrith.

Maybe some History Lessons could be appropriate PF.
It seems appropriate that you have chosen Mick Ennis as your Avatar, he tends to waffle on with a pile of verbage without really saying anything!"
