Our Club, Our Team

The rambling thoughts of a Parramatta supporter. As I sit here typing, after what's been a very stressful week for my beloved Eels and its fans, I can't help but wonder what Steve Sharp and the board have done to make perfectly normal Eels fans bay for their blood part way through an investigation. Now some may say that the NRL have already carried out their investigation and they have, in part. They are now waiting for a response from the board and club before making a final verdict. The breach notice has already brought to light a couple of interesting outcomes that need further investigation, mainly what part did Todd Greenburg play in his TPA discussions with Scott Seward. Now if we were at a stage where the charge was embezzlement or the board had run the club into the ground financially, I'd say the board should immediately stand down. But this is not the case, this board has taken a wooden spoon club with avg players and more coaches than you can poke a stick at and changed it into a club with a strong team culture, 'A' class players, great training facilities, a new stadium on the way, profitable club and not to mention a team who is more than competitive each week. Now our opposition fans would suggest that it is cap rorting that has got us here, but given investigations by the NRL and Ian Schubert at the beginning of this year, I'd suggest this year we are properly under the cap and therefore couldn't care less what other teams or their supporters thought.I don't know what we will find at the end of this current investigation, but I am disappointed to see the same old factions come out stirring the pot, claiming to be doing it for the club. I'm disappointed at media who for months have built a story of deception and cheating that sells papers with little to no fact in them at all. I'm disappointed in a governing body who as they hand over the breach notice and before those accused can respond, deliver a scathing verdict of systematic cheating the likes we've never seen and a stain on the game. But most of all I'm disappointed in fellow Parramatta Eels supporters who have been swept up in the frenzy and have accused the club and board of being the worst in our history, when the fact is the Parramatta Eels are in a better place than we've been in for years.Even if we lose points, and don't make the 8, how is this any worse than previous years. In fact even if those eventuate, we still have a formidable team for next year, a profitable club, a new stadium on the way, training facility and a coach that has proven his worth 10 times over.So people, let's wait for the process to end and remember, we voted this board in to make our club better and to give us a team we can be proud of. Have they not delivered? Let's wait til the next election for the members to vote on whether we elect them or others who we believe are better. Let's not get caught up in the pitchfork and torches mob mentality.I'm Proud to Support the Blue and Gold.

  • A great post.

I can understand people getting caught up in all the news. After all the eels are an emotional subject for us all. We have been on an emotional roller coaster for ages so I do give people some slack here, myself included !! It is hard that no matter where you turn, media, friends etc everyone is laughing at you calling you a cheat. Anger needs an outlet.

What I have learnt this week is that we are going to have to wait longer for this to conclude and we should reserve judgement until that time.

I don't think we will see a conclusion for weeks if not months.
  • Really great thoughts TBUR. We're all in this together , even if we'll always will have different thoughts & feelings about anything. Even after this stressful times are over. The greatest strength is always in numbers & we all love the Eels.
    • Mate, I wasn't including you in the Mob. Your posts have been well thought out and while leaning to the guilty side (which is understandable) you have made it known that if by some miracle we got off you'd be rapped.

I'm talking about the shoot first ask questions later brigade.
  • Awesome post
I am one fan that has been getting caught up in all the bullshit in regards to the media etc
The people I am aiming my anger now is the likes of Paul Kent
For months he has been talking absolute garbage and I am embarrassed to say I was believing him but the longer this goes on the more I see his shit fall apart
So let's see what's what come June 20
    And go the mighty EELS
    • I agree with some of what you are saying , but I don't think ppl who have doubted the board should be shouted down as anti parra either . There have been numerous fuck ups along the way and the propaganda has been relentless to make us question processes, motivations and personalities . I am not embarrassed to say I think we need a better board . Yes ok , information is supporting them now , but you can only go on what u are told whether it be by parra or media
  • I only said I was disappointed and yes they have stuffed up along the way, but they have also done some good.

But for some to say fek these scum off, is to me an overkill at this stage.
  • TBUR your 100% on the money mate, even before this whole saga imploded their were members calling out the board to resign - WHY ........ They have achieved quite a lot in their term and yes some mistakes were made whether they were through lack of business smarts or not ie DA trying to rearrange part salary to TPA prior to February.

We finally have a competitive culture, the right coach, great training facilities, new stadium on its way and a riser to be proud of - Fitzy, Spags all failed miserably in their term to get the above done.

What really burns my toast is the ineptitude of the NRL to state that the investigation is not fully complete, yet hang our club out to dry ....... This is trial by media and the NRL were highly pressured to yield early and vindicate the media's garbage reporting,
    that's complete bollocks !!!

What's more concerning is that the investigation is not finished and yet the NRL are asking for heavy sanctions to be met prior to the board receiving the entire investigation reporting, the lack of courtesy to respond to said investigation and finalisation of the NRLs report.

It's simply a witch hunt. Parra factions have suddenly reared their ugly heads once again and promoted a clear and prosperous new pathway, yet all a while forging behind the scenes since the current boards inception to destabilise the progress and smear the board in anyway what's so ever.

I'm keen to see the board run the gauntlet in court and unearth all and sundry - let's see the entire process and judge for ourselves without the NRL bring judge , jury and executioner.

I'm so sick of the rubbish media directing the way this circus should pan out - let's see for ourselves.
  • Did anyone actually read all that?
    • i did because i can read unlike some on this site.

    • What is your problem with me? Is that you Benj?

"If you are going to do that better off just keeping him in Cup as a break glass option. Unless he is that much of a cancer and that negative to the squad that he needs to go."
