Our Bench

I haven't seen much of Bevan French except for the nines but we can all agree he has some serious speed. Is it worth blooding someone like French on the bench in place of Pritchard to inject into the game much like what Brisbane did with Nikorama last year? I have no doubt he could cause some serious headaches for opposition forwards in and around the ruck? Or is he just too small and become a liability in defence? I know he'd be playing out of position but could help him get used to the speed of first grade as well as develop his ball playing skills if he is a future fullback.

  • No.
  • Nope, French isn't ready.
Fullback is his primary position & then five-eighth.

  • Nikorama was a fullback and half also. With a mainstay Hooker doing the bulk of the work Nikorama adds impact. Like I said I haven't seen much of French so I don't know how he defends, but Parra have had a pretty ordinary record of bringing players through before we lose them to other clubs because they offer opportunities in first grade.
    • They're two very different players.
Nikorima had experience playing at hooker across his NYC career so is comfortable there, but even he struggles in defence.

French has never played at hooker in the Holden Cup.

    • The answer is NO. Why are you hating on Kayser. Hes playing great in his role off the bench. If it aint broke???
    • I'm not hating on Kaysa, he has been solid and hasn't done anything wrong. Just think French could add a whole new dimension while developing him, the bench role is very limited. I still remember the try Reece Robinson scored to win us the game last year against Penrith and can see French doing much the same thing running at tired forwards. However our defence has been outstanding in all 3 games this year and if he would be a liability then I would say no too.
    • So where we put him on the field then? Bevan is not utility player.
    • Neither is Pritchard, he is a hooker? If anything French offers more utility value.
  • No mate but his time will come. its a long season and im sure he will get an opportunity. He is a talent

  • Time will tell and he is bigger then both nikoramas put together
