Origin II

Just quickly, for origin two, instead of bringing in Tafua or Mansour why not move Hopoate to the wing and have Lewis in the centres? We can always bring in Bird or Fifita to cover Lewis spot.

May have been said but what are your thoughts?

  • I think it depends on how Hoppa plays this weekend. He was quiet last week and average in defense. If he has a blinder he might get the nod with either of the two you mention. If he is just average i think Lewis will play there. I saw an article that said Scott could play center, might see the two of them swapping from second row to center. It would save on interchanges and keep a solid defense.

  • I'm guessing he heard on nrl 360 that Laurie is considering lewis in the centres.
  • Fittler: Scott, Lewis in running for centre spot

NSW assistant coach Brad Fittler says the Blues selection panel is still considering its options with regard to replacing brothers Brett and Josh Morris for State of Origin II.
Fittler said he didn't believe the team would move Jarryd Hayne into the vacant right centre position and play Josh Dugan at fullback, and suggested back-rowers Beau Scott or Luke Lewis could be shifted into the backline.
"I wouldn't think Hayne would move," Fittler told SportsFan.com.au, saying Dugan remained some chance of getting a run at centre.
"We have a lot of back rowers and not many centres. Greg Bird will come back in somewhere. That could allow for a Beau Scott or Luke Lewis to play in the centres."
  • I think because this year we seem to name our team after Queensland, I think if Inglis is named at fullback Hoppa will be slotted into centre. If Slater is fine to play, Hoppa will have trouble matching the strength of Inglis, either landing him on the wing or not in the team at all.

    • Does NSW even have any fast center who can tackle GI besides Jmoz?

    • Rumot - under the new laws there is a father/son rule. Therefore Inglis Jr will be a qlder
  • Daley needs to keep players in their preferred positions. Thought Hoppa played well in a well beaten team. Couple of nice passes, but yes defense was below par...if it were me I'd pick hoppa and taufua. I think tafua is big enuff to help hoppa with GI. But realistically what player in the league could stop GI 1 on 1...
    • mansour is bigger

    • Josh Morris, and he's done it for two seasons. The only other one would be Jamie Lyon.

  • Origin is a game where you pick players in the position they know and play week in week out. Especially in origin where you need speedy centers.
