Origin 2 Blog

I noticed we don't have one up yet and it's only hours to kick off. Let me start by saying I think NSW have a big chance at winning tonight. They got close in Game One and they'll be better for it. They have players that are gaining more Origin experience. QLD can be beaten. They haven't won every series 3-0. The time is now for those Blues to stand and be counted. To begin building a Blue Dynasty. The players are there in the form of Hayne, Pearce, Carney, Farah, Uate, Gallen (the list goes on). QLDers claim they have a mortgage on passion. I disagree, ANZ Stadium is sold out and will be bathed in Blue. Origin and League is a funny game, anything can happen.

The Blues need to get the little things right and keep it simple. Get to the kick, find the grass, chase hard. A kick is only as good as it's chase. If, every time Slater looks up and sees a Blue wall in front of him he's not going to want to bring it back as hard as he can. Pressure must be put on Thurston and Cronk. They can't be allowed to play with time and space; they'll tear us to shreds. Limit the amount of ball Inglis can get. Morris did an excellent job in Game One, he needs to come up with  that performance again. The forward work can't be left to Gallen. The guys such as Tamou and Grant need to step up. Tamou had a good first game but he needs to be more involved. Grant's on his debut, it's okay to have nerves but they have to be put to use in belting the QLD forwards. QLD needs to be constantly bringing the ball off their own line, very few tries in Origin are scored from inside their own 20.

An finally, team unity needs to be complete in NSW. Every player has to be willing to support his mate and give 100%. Perfection is not about the scoreboard, it's about your relationship with your teammates. Being perfect is when you can look you friend in the eye and know there was not 1 more thing you could've done. If the Blues back up their mates, they'll win. Their club egos have to be left at their club. They have to be willing to give everything for the ultimate reward. Max Krillich said that it doesn't matter how many champion players QLD has. It's 13 Vs 13 out there. A champion team will always beat a team of champions. Play as a unit. Have pride in the jersey. And above all SMASH THOSE QLD'ERS.

NSW BORN, NSW BRED, WHEN I DIE, I'LL BE NSW DEAD.

  • GO THE BLUES!!!!

  • I think QLD will smash us. NSW played well in game one which is why I think they'll have a shocker in game two - they lack the experience and class of the Maroons to maintain consistant high level performances. Everyone is expecting them to go close or win it tonight - I think that weight of expectation will sink them.

Hope I'm wrong, I really do.

    • I'm afraid Sticky's atrocious selection and use of bench will cost us the game. Around the 20min mark they'll bring in two new fresh forwards and we'll get Creagh, the biggest sheila in the comp. It'll change the momentum. I thought that was our biggest problem in game one, even bigger than Jennings sin bin. And it all happened around the same time.

Fingers crossed and lets hope for a better bench in game three.

    • You were wrong.

  • I'm hoping we don't have as many shocking ref decisions this time round. Creagh's the weak link on the bench. I think Sticky should pull of the props when they are tired, not just because his rotation policy says so. With Grant and Tamou starting we have definite size there. The key with successfully rotating these guys and not impacting the team too much is to not take them off at the same time. Take 1 off, put Gallen into prop and bring on Luke Lewis or Watmough. Then take off either Bird or Glenn Stewart, shift Gallen to lock and take off the other prop and replace them with the 2 ones on the bench. This way each rotation will have a fresh player and one with game time, meaning it will be harder for momentum to swing.
