Opinions on Travis Waddell?

I've been keeping an eye on a Glenn Buttris' contract negotiation because he struck me as a good fit with our roster being a excellent defender and able to cover nine and 14. However, reports coming out of Canberra suggest that he is looking likely at being re-signing and nothing to indicate we've expressed an interest. However, the Raiders have given Travis Waddell who is contracted next year the opportunity to talk to other clubs. I know particularly last year, a lot of Raiders fans were talking big things about Waddell but he's had a lot of injuries and not really gone on with it. Given their similar backgrounds and ages, I'm guessing he probably played some junior rep football with Chris Sandow. Anyway, I thought it might be more than coincidental that Mortimer was given permission to look elsewhere, almost at exactly the same time that Waddell was. Again, I have no information just wanted to gauge people's thoughts on him.

  • He burst onto the scene and played some handy football for the Raiders at one stage before getting injured - and looked rather solid when he was playing.
He has the makings of a star hooker in the future in the NRL, so I wouldn't be against the club signing him, or at least approaching him.
  • I'm not sure I rate Wadell. Anthony Mitchell as a rookie outplayed him in the Indigenous game(granted it was an exhibition game). Why let Mitchell go for someone like Wadell. I wouldn't mind Buttris, orHinchcliffe or the best NYC 20yr old hooker we can lure. Slade Griffin from the Storm (former centre now hooker )ripping it up in under 20s and behind Smith/Hinchcliffe + off contract is a good option. But I agree, we are definitely one hooker short for next year especially if we don't re-sign McGuire...
  • I'd sign him, we need another hooker in the squad and he would be a very handy pick-up. I'd have him off the bench with Keating starting.
  • do we have any promising hookers in the juniors????????
    • Dean Blackman.
  • Didn't we let Blackman go??   I could be wrong.
    • The Storm were keeping an eye on him (pretty sure it was the Storm), but not sure if he ended up leaving.

If he has, then Trent Crellin is not too bad of a kid at hooker either.
      • thanks ricky

are they ready to play first grade?????

i wouldnt hurt to give them a run this year, as our season is over, and see what they got

        • Blackman was, but as BnG said below - Roosters for him looks like a given.

I've only seen a few games involving Crellin, and he's been solid, but not sure if he's ready for first-grade just yet.
  • Blackman-----> Roosters. Pretty sure its a done deal.
