These scenarios where teams can poach players with another season on contract has to go. I thought the league was supposed to help teams retain players n not make it harder. Obv that lowball offer to Papa was an insult. Amazing work ethic, leads on and off the feild, skilled for his size, high footy IQ ,become a cult hero etc etc. However, the lesser teams have a huge advantage signing players in this scenario as the top teams have to be careful with regards to players coming off contract the following few seasons. It's a trash scenario. It needs to chucked out.

  • Papa 😢

  • Except the roosters of course. They seem to never have that problem. The dumber teams need that year more than pigs needs poo.

  • A soft cap is the answer. We should've had the ability to exceed the cap to retain Papa, Mahoney, Niukore, Kaufusi, Stone etc, should we chosen to.

    • We could have easily signed the majority of these players, but ba and co choose to sign an aging nbrown who they don'twant now, & sign too many back up players in rein ogden and Opacic ect because of our failing pathways systems.

BA loves to spread the cap because he knows it will save him if injuries arise, top 8 is enough to keep him in the job in his mind.

        • Yes it was good news at the time, but only ba and his retention team knew how much of the cap there would be to retain other more important players. There obviously wasn't Mack.

If we could have only retained papa and maybe Nikure it would have been ok, but to lose so many players,  anyone can predict that the next few years will be a struggle

            • Don't forget Papalli is till on peanuts this year. There's no doubt we could have kept him with the right upgrade

              • But it was Papa's choice to sign the original contract and if he thought he was going to kill it his manager should have had kpi's inserted to reflect this. We finally get value for money and work it out later. He was offered an upgrade for this year with his new contract but knocked it back. He might be understanding that money isn't everything.

                • Slight wasn't good enough beissy/rock. Back rower of the season deserved more so wake up Einstein 🤤🤤🤤. If we had a smart manager or coach they would have wrapped him up quick smart, but we have dopes who think players will stay anyway as they are all in love the bush coach.

                    • Thats how much you know about contracts brissy dolphin. The best negotiators allow a portion of their cap as a sweetener to top up important players who have improved.

                    • Shows how much you know again chief - you know shit and prove it every time you make a comment.
