Arthur is finally in the front seat he doesn't need to panic and few aging players on the roster reckon are in a great position to attract talent. We do need a hard edged front rower!!
BA has really whipped our salary cap into shape. He can spend the next 2 years extending contracts of players he wants to keep and also buying new players he wants. No legacy signings, no 5 year deals for aging players. Great work.
I agree on that Mutt; they will know who is being extended and those on 1 yr deals will be extended or not. They will have the core group (halves; fullback and dummy half to build around; and we have some good depth. I think people need to see the playing field has changed immensely in the last few years; look at the halves who have changed clubs this season; Cronk, Moses and Hunt, and then Pearce heads to Newcastle.
Pop, I’m with you. This time next year we could be in the same position as Souths. Norman, Moses, Mau, Tep and Clint will be able to sign with a rival club with a seaso left to run with us.
Yes, we experienced with this with Junior going to Canberra .......I am sure Junior is better for the experience and we would have been paying overs.....it becomes very subjective.....I am not sure that we did the wrong thing in not matching the payment.....Junior would tick most of the boxes we know need to be ticked in completing the pack .....I am still not convinced with his performances last year.....stats are misleading.....I thought a lot of the time when Canberra needed him.....he wasn't around.
One of those front rowers with a work ethic would be a choice but they don't grow on trees (no pun).
Love to get one of the St George Front Rowers.....maybe the battleship prop....Matt Scott style is better suited than the Big Boppa that has a lower work rate.
I have big hopes for Alvaro to make another step and Terepo really didn't get going last year......both these blokes have improvement in them and whilst Evans will improve....how much BA magic will rub off is dependant on his head.....BA certainly got inside Brown's last year. Brown is actually a prop playing in the middle forward role and could migrate to the front if we have a young forward like Stone come through in the next couple of years.
This all adds up to the flexibility that BA has. Stone will have been identified already and the flies will be swarming. At least BA has the flexibility to pay him overs to retain him. How Norman goes this year will decide if our young half from the 20's or young Salmon are ready to go in 2019.
Moses will be a long term player and has a 50/50 chance of playing Origin this year. Backup will be necessary and by this time the choices may move around Guth and Smith filling in there through injury and absence.
Don't sweat it Brad, the retention committee and BA are already sorting through it. Some guys will have to prove they are worthy of an extension / upgrade. Plus with natural attrition we will have plenty of cap space to share the love where and when needed.
Mack, the problem is the nrl system, the system allows for the following players to sign a contract now with any club. Scott, king, Aukafolau, Alvaro, Gower, G Jennings, Leleisiuau, Hayne, Kaysa, Auva’a, Brown, Terepo, Stone, Vave, Matagi, Williams and Smith.
In 10 Months the following players can sign with any club. French, Taka, Gutho, Norman, Hoffman,Edwards, Mau, M Jennings, Moses, Tepai and Mannah.

"A family friend played against him in a touch footy competition. His coach mentioned Brett Kenny, a local kid that has been signed by Parramatta is playing against them and to watch him, family friend say "oh please, I worry about myself they have…"

I'm not sure Brad, the whole playing problem is so mercenary now.....maybe one step at a time.
I really struggle coming to terms with players signing one year ahead of themselves.....i.e. Crighton going to Roosters.
Playing for a team this year knowing you are leaving seems so ordinary from a perspective of loyalty.
I suppose I am just too old to understand the modern thinking on this!
That’s a 2 year window.
I’d imagine a few will get extended this year.

Its a good and bad situation. BA knows the players want to play for him so they wont leave if they do.
If players arent performing he can change our roster and rebuild .
Chrighton left because he was originally a roosters junior anyways and he wanted to play for Madge.

LOL, I hear ya ! They're all zooming by without even slowing down - it's brutal..
