One on one strip

If there is one rule that really shits me it is the one on one strip rule. Why, just why? I just don't get why all strips are not made illegal. The paulo example is a great example. The carry wasn't loose. There was no skill involved just brute force against a player with less leverage. I hate seeing players trying to do it and i hate seeing sides winning field position losing the ball randomly due to this stupid rule. And i hate platers dropping off a tackle to allow a strip attempt. I just hate it. Discuss.

  • You know what's funny , I almost wrote this thread myself half an hour ago. Watching the Knights / Sharks game I noticed that teams are starting to get multiple players into a tackle , attacking the ball carriers ball carrying arms , but then two players jump off the player whilst the third player rips at the ball.  Now the issue I have is that there were multiple players involved in weakening the players carry , however they call it a 1 on 1 strip.  It's bullshit.

I don't have any issue with the Paulo strip, that was pure hunger for the ball and won fair and square, but yeah , totally with you that there's an issue with the stripping rule.

    • Totally agree. If several players are involved in getting the ball 90% out then all but one drop off to let the last one do the last bit then it is not a one on one strip. Stupid rule.

    • I hate the strip and I disagree with the Paulo strip. When is he held? Latrell took several attempts to get that ball. It was like he was digging for gold. Strip should be in one motion, not allowing them that much time and effort to do it

      • Yeah the ref should of called held after one attemp, I mean do you just let it go on and on?

  • My issue with it is that it's being used as a weapon to slow the play the ball . Starting to see an uptick of tackles where there is no chance of the strip happening but the defender is going on with attempt as it slows the play the ball

  • I thought Juniors last night was harsh. He was on the ground not moving in a forward motion and the rabbits had a hand on him. Tackle complete. It was a bad look that play, the ball just being man handled by brute force. Didnt like it.

The ones where Munster one on one tackle no others invloved and the bloke is still standing and he steals it, I like that one. Thats skill and your risking letting the ball carrier get away. 50/50 etc.

Agree the dropping off to allow a strip I hate that. Thats not footy.

    • Did they tackle Jnr though ? All I saw was the rabbits player with arms around the ball , not tackling Paulo .  think you'll find no tackle was completed on Jnr at all .

On the flip side , if the same situation arises and the rabbits blokes only ripping at the ball and our bloke doesn't come out the bitch like Hopgoods example , we run off as the defender didn't actually compete a tackle and the rabbits player looks dumb .

      • your probably right i havnt watched a replay, it was just my feeling at the time that he was on the ground going nowhere with a hand on him.

        • Nar Fatrell only had his arms around the ball , and shook shit outta it until Junior Burger lost the fight. Fatrell pretty much wanted it much more.

I have no issue with that. The old rules were spot on, as soon as a tackle involves more than one defender at anytime , that tackles deemed a non stripable tackle. Ever since they changed it then I can come in and pull one of your arms off the ball then let go just before my team mate strips it from you. And that's exactly what the smart teams are doing.

  • Yeah hate it shit rule get rid of it
