On This Day: 14th April

Here we go again...

1959  Geoff Green. Have you heard of him? Well, it's his birthday and he's is 63 today. He was the winger who played a handful of first-grade games for us during our 1981-82 glory years. Happy Birthday! Yet another Eels who was overshadowed by bigger names. If you can spot him on the video below, you win a prize. 1

1962 We won a tryless game against Wests 4-2 Saturday afternoon at Cumberland Oval. It is our lowest collective score against Wests (we're playing the West Tigers this week at CommBank), and currently our seventh-lowest collective scoring game ever. We have played Wests twice on this day, but never the West Tigers. 2

2001 Round 9, 3 minutes from full-time. A frustrated St George Illawarra hooker Wayne Bartrim is the first player sent off in 2001 for kicking Andrew Ryan in the ruck (with Nathan Hindmarsh looking on, at 1:17:47). Also, in the 56' minute Trent Barrett's rough-house head-slamming tackle takes a groggy Brett Hodgson out for the rest of the game. 3

And in...

1865  Iconic President Abraham Lincoln was assassinated, shot on this day by John Wilkes Booth "while attending a production at Ford's Theatre in Washington, D.C". It was effectively after the end of the American Civil War. Lincoln died the next morning.

Prof. Daz replied to Prof. Daz's discussion Why Academics Suck
"Poupou, how is my example "sophistry"? Which is plausible but invalid reasoning.
Your example to demonstrate my sophistry does not unpack the actual example, instead you divert to a red herring about degree of specifity (about what you are unclear).…"

Prof. Daz replied to Prof. Daz's discussion Why Academics Suck
"Poupou, how - specifically - do academics "appeal to their own authority"? Look at your own example, which does NOT display the fallacy of argument from authority. If X says a degree has utility value for Y because X can teach Y how to think not…"

Prof. Daz replied to Mr 'BringBackFitzy' Analyst's discussion Vlandy's - NRL will register Lomax new deal
"V'Landys tries to hide his hypocrisy in this whole Lomax Affair by seeking to shift sympathy toward Lomax, asking who would "knock a bloke that's trying to do the best for himself". But that shifting of ethical primacy toward Lomax contradicts…"
