Here we go again...
1959 Geoff Green. Have you heard of him? Well, it's his birthday and he's is 63 today. He was the winger who played a handful of first-grade games for us during our 1981-82 glory years. Happy Birthday! Yet another Eels who was overshadowed by bigger names. If you can spot him on the video below, you win a prize. 1
1962 We won a tryless game against Wests 4-2 Saturday afternoon at Cumberland Oval. It is our lowest collective score against Wests (we're playing the West Tigers this week at CommBank), and currently our seventh-lowest collective scoring game ever. We have played Wests twice on this day, but never the West Tigers. 2
2001 Round 9, 3 minutes from full-time. A frustrated St George Illawarra hooker Wayne Bartrim is the first player sent off in 2001 for kicking Andrew Ryan in the ruck (with Nathan Hindmarsh looking on, at 1:17:47). Also, in the 56' minute Trent Barrett's rough-house head-slamming tackle takes a groggy Brett Hodgson out for the rest of the game. 3
And in...
1865 Iconic President Abraham Lincoln was assassinated, shot on this day by John Wilkes Booth "while attending a production at Ford's Theatre in Washington, D.C". It was effectively after the end of the American Civil War. Lincoln died the next morning. 4
President Abraham Lincoln was sitting in when he was assassinated. Henry Ford purchased the rocking chair was sitting in 1929 for the Museum.
