I have heard a lot recently about the imput of player managers imput into clubs rosters. I know nothing about it but I would like to hear from someone in the know. I dont care which club. Does Parra have a issue with this within the playing group?

  • Every club does to some extent. So long as the players have virtually unrestricted free agency their managers will wield enormous power. Manly in particular are going through that at the moment. It's especially tough when the coach shares the same manager as sone of his players.

  • These 'issues' aren't really issues.

The media generates these stories and whacks a label on them to sell clicks.

Every club has relationships with certain managers/management agencies and agents.

They say it's all about networking in those circles so for example we were linked to Jaxson Paulo because Ben Rogers had something to do with him at the Bunnies back in 09 or something like that.

  • Only the struggling clubs get held to ransom when trying to hold onto 'star players'.

Parramatta have done a good job of holding strong to a plan as far as the cap management side of things is concerned, as not to get pushed up in negotiations.

Our stars are Moses, Gutho, Dylan, Matterson, Junior and Reg.

  • Some clubs have too many players with 1 manager which causes issues, but even 1 star player with manager can have same affect.  Manager says sign this additional average player or you don't get the star.

Parra's issues are a bit different though.  Some managers don't like sending their players to the Eels which is fall out from previous administrations and the cap scandal and general dislike of the club.

Some of those that do deal with parra put outrageous demands into negotiations, as they're not worried if the deal falls through, but are even happier if parra agree which we have done out of desperation.

This can be seen by the ridiculous conditions in Dylan Brown contract, dragging out negotiations and inflated salaries.

There are some clubs who pay managers their commission so it doesn't come out of players salary, whicj basically lowers cap value for player.

Other clubs offer TPAs and other incentives which a manager gets a cut of.  Parra don't offer any of this any more due to previous cap rorts.

    • All true, but the underlying issue is that the players, particularly young unproven talent, have far too much freedom of movement. They have all the leverage and they and their managers know it and exploit if.

  • It's as much of a problem as you let it. At the end of the day players make the final call, some players are man enough to tell their managers the contract they want to take.

TPA's have a massive influence also.

    • TPA's are not the underlying problem, merely a side effect.
