Official Team Sheet: Eels vs Warriors

Pirtek Parramatta Eels name six new faces for Round 1

The Pirtek Parramatta Eels have named six new faces for their season opening blockbuster against the Warriors at Eden Park this Saturday night in New Zealand.

New recruits Chris Walker and Carl Webb will officially pull on the blue and gold jersey for the first time, Casey McGuire makes his return after 12 years, while former Storm player Billy Rogers has been named on an extended bench.

Local juniors Mitchell Allgood and Ryan Morgan will make their debut for the Eels. Allgood originally played in Penrith’s junior league before switching to the Eels, playing Toyota Cup and for Wentworthville in the NSW Cup. Morgan is a Greystanes junior and is graduating from a solid year in the Toyota Cup in 2010.

Superboot Luke Burt is looking to reach 1500 career points against the Warriors, and is just five points shy of the milestone.

  • hmm...Etu over Hicks...interesting
  • How good has Taniela Lasalo been going to keep both Smith & Shackelton out of the starting line up???
  • And Smith on the bench...
  • Fats hasn't been named anywhere... I can't remember hearing he was injured, I wonder if he is?
  • No Fuifui unfortunately. Well done to Taniela - big effort to work his way into the starting lineup and I'm really impressed by the fact that the coaching staff have rewarded his pre-season form rather than just pick people on reputation.

Hicks and Reddy playing for Wenty too!
  • Dont like the backline. Would not be surprised to see some pre game changes.
The first game of the year we need to enter the game with our best squad and hopefully all these guys heads are ready.
The warriors are going to be strong and try to roll us. Maybe Smith or Horo may be used tactically in the centres on Manu's side.
Surely Whatiura was close to being named?

On the positive congrats to Mitchell and Ryan. And i am really happy for Taniela. Great starting back row.
  • And no mention of Humble in Wenty. Something hopefully can be sorted for him soon?
  • I'm guessing he is being used as more of a 'hole runner'? With Hindy in the starting 11, maybe Kearney thinks he has the tackling aspect all covered, and needed a bit of potency in the back row? But I don't see Smith as much of an impact sub, but more a solid 2nd rower with a great tackling technique. Just my opinion
  • I think you can put that down to the fact Hicks hasn't played any pre-season football. Kearney hasn't put anyone into that side on reputation. Every player in there has played in the trials and he's picked those that stood out like Lasalo ahead of players you would have expected to be picked solely on reputation like Ben Smith.
  • Have to say congrats to Etu, though. Didn't get a sniff last year and now he's got another chance to show he's up to NRL.
