*Official* Eels Team for 2022 as of Nov 10.

Key Observations:

  • Russel, Makatoa & Naiduki have been upgraded into the top 30.
  • Rankin (top 30 last year) and Roache (development contract last year) are no where to be seen even though they were not on the list of departing players (W Smith was not on the list either, and ended up leaving).
  • Rodwell and Tuipulotu have been upgraded onto a development contract
  • Rein and C Scott are not 'officially' an eels despite the rumours that they have signed with us.
  • As known, W Smith, Lussick, Hughes, Oldfield and Ferguson have left the club.

    • $625k per season * 4 seasons apparently - good luck to him..

      • I really liked Niukore. I really was hoping to see him and Papali'i in the backrow together. But I cannot be mad at him or the club. I doubt eels would of gottten anywhere close with the money he is being offered. He is also a Kiwi and pretty sure was playing in the warriors junior system before he transfered to eels in his junior days as well. Then from a club perspective, we have higher priorities in Mahoney, Papali'i, Paulo and Gutho.

  •  I think there will be a couple of others who may leave before the team is finalised.

Its interesting to see that Sam Hughes is still with the eels, hopefully his problems of this year have been sorted out, according to the eels team page, where there is 14 backs & 17 forwards shown.

    • Sam Hughes left. I don't think the eels page is updated.

      • Yep, was released mid season.

      • There has been several players delisted from the team page, as I mentioned only 14backs & 17 forwards, & it includes Sam and Lussick on their page. Certainly Lussick has gone and its a bit of an unknown at this point with Sam, if he goes that takes the forwards base down to 15.

        • Hughes was in the list of departing players. Last year Scheider was on a development contract and was included in the list of departing players. However, Scheider is still at the eels and was playing jersey flegg for us this year. Unless Hughes is doing the same, I doubt he is still at the club. It would make sense for him to play jersey flegg next year because he has missed alot of rugby league due to COVID restriction and his break from the game. I don't know anything as to why he was on break, but I have a feeling he has given up on NRL all together.

          • Hughes is gone.  The Club has kept it very quiet.  Must be something personal but, he is gone!
