Official Club Team Announcement for Panthers Trial

The following is courtesy of the club:

Coach Daniel Anderson has named a full-strength squad for the Parramatta Eels’ second trial of 2010 against the Penrith Panthers in the Battle of the West Cup, with Timana Tahu the only name missing through a two-match suspension.

The Eels will travel out to CUA Stadium in Penrith on Saturday night, with the game kicking off at 7.30pm. Toyota Cup plays at 5.15pm and NSW Cup at 3.00pm.

Former Dragon Justin Poore will make his debut for the Parramatta Eels and will battle with Fuifui Moimoi, Nathan Cayless and Tim Mannah for starting spots in the front row for the club’s Round 1 game against his former club.

Competition is fierce in the forwards this season at the Parramatta Eels, as Poore’s fellow new recruit Shane Shackleton will again line up this week after an excellent pre-season debut for the club last weekend.

Coach Anderson’s selection dilemma is no easier in the backs, with Luke Burt, Eric Grothe, Krisnan Inu and Joel Reddy keen to make an impression before Timana Tahu returns from a two-year hiatus next week.

In the halves Anderson needs to fit three into two, with last year’s incumbents Daniel Mortimer and Jeff Robson fighting off a fit and injury-free Kris Keating.

Blues representative Poore is looking forward to his first game in the Blue & Gold and is not daunted by the competition he is facing for a starting spot in the side.

“I’m really excited about playing my first game for the club. I love being here and I’ve fitted in straight away because they’re a great bunch of blokes,” Poore says.

“We’ve got a great side and we’re almost full-strength for this game so we’ll all be putting in a big effort to try and win our spot for Round 1.”

  • Bloody early to play the strongest possible side - Tahu.......let's hope no injuries ...........
  • tahu is suspended
  • I find it strange that Humble has been named at fullback for Wenty, when by all accounts he's been purchased as a half.

I'm sure we will see him play a hayne/slater/carney role as a third half from the back, however surely it would be better for his development to have him operating full time at 6 for wenty. So he can become more accustomed to the position.
  • Dnt Care About the result just please god no friggin injuries!!! ahhh hate trial games
  • If I'm not mistaken Tahu got suspended for two games right at the end of his NRL career which now carry over. So this means he had to miss the All Stars game and all of Parra's trials and the first two rounds of the competition. Is that right? How's that a 2 game suspension? That's more like a 6 game suspension. Or am I missing something?
  • just bought my tickets, couldn't think of a better way to spend my birthday.
  • They're just general admission tickets, right?
  • Tahu will be back next week his carry over suspension was for 2 matches, last weeks "All Star"game and this weeks "Battle for the West" trial against Penrith
  • I heard DA say at the time of Humble's signing that he is versatile, but he is seen more as a running back than a 6 or 7.
  • Bear in mind, he missed two games of Union because of that suspension - so yeah - he's paid his penance (all for a mild headslam in the same game Brett White chicken winged Cayless and tore his pectoral muscle of the bone)!

"Bup mentioned this last week he thinks a good move going foward is just continue with Talagi at fullback and while BA won't do it as soon as they feel they don't have a shot BA needs to be looking at continuing with the young fulla.
