Hi all
I am in week 7 of 9 weeks traveling around Europe with the family . I decided to go to places off the beat a little . We have visited Amsterdam -Berlin- Romania- Hungary-Poland - Malta - greece - Croatia - Slovenia .
if people are looking at different places to visit - I thoroughly recommend Romania and Slovenia . Blown me away both places. Relatively cheap ,great food , great beers , unbelievable sights and fantastic people . In Romania we drove the famous transfargan road and saw two huge bears by the road . Basically had them to ourselves for ten minutes . So much history and like . Slovenia is one of the most spectacular places I have seen . Malta is good and Berlin is a cool place with so much ww2 history ...
I know this has absolutely zero to do with my beloved eels but I know we have huge membership . If you thinking of Europe and want to see something different other than paris - London and like - go to Central Europe . Great value for money and you will love it ...

Hi Grunta. You won’t be sorry if you go to Malta and take Paul’s advice and visit in the months he suggested. When your there it’s only a ferry ride from Sicily which is another place to add to your itinerary. Lots to do either in Malta or the neighbouring Gozo which is also another ferry tide away. Stay in Sliema where Paul suggested and you can catch a bus to everywhere. Coffee is cheap and the views while your having your coffee are to die for. Your wife will fall in love with you all over again when you take her back to the place of her birth, take my word.
Malta is pretty small island but densely populated. We had some rainy days but still managed to swim in the Mediterranean Sea few times and it was magical , so much history everywhere. People all speak English and lots of great restaurants and places to people watch.
The peak times are obviously July aug sep , but if wound be crazy busy too. Go in eIther June or October I think , Airbnb in say Sliema. You will have a ball grunta. Not too expensive either mate . Remember cruises from nearby Italy are dirt cheap compared to australia ...
I totally recommend Monto! You'll have no regrets.
Hi Tad
we did Auchwitz and lot of the world war 2 sites . Sad but you really appreciate the enormity of the holocaust when your visiting Poland , The Germans don't cover this period in history . The various sites such as auchwitz and other concentration camps are brutal but story needs to be told too.
The big thing about Europe is the history dating back before Christ ... amazing stuff really
Cool! How hard is the language barrier in central/eastern Europe? I'm thinking of going there.
Romania was manageable . Obviously in country towns they don't Speak English . But the main cities like Sibiu, Brasov and Bucharest no dramas at all. Romania has a huge population of bears . We were driving the famous transfargan road when we came across two huge bears . Had them to ourselves for 10 minutes , only 2 metres from our car . Unbelievable experience .
Haven't been able to have a holiday for six years. Have not been out of Australia for 23 years. Would be happy just to be able to afford a break, let alone a wonderful trip like you are experiencing PT. Well earned BTW.
Hey EE

I know you have earned it mate. Happy for you. Just hope that one day I will be in a position to do the same. Work as hard as anyone, you know that, and circumstances are what they are.
