NSW Cup - Rd.1 vs North Sydney Bears

Fabian Goodall, Halauafu Lavaka, Tui Kamikamica and Taniela Lasalo all turning out for Wenty in the Ron Massey Cup trial as Wenty go about flogging Asquith 62-0 with 3min to play.

As I type that another try is scored and the score will be 68-0.

Looking forward to a great game of footy at Ringrose Park as Wenty play host to the North Sydney Bears. A solid crowd has turned out which also features Tim Mannah and Tepai Moeroa in attendance. Had a brief chat to Tepai who is a fantastic young man, shoulder is no issue and he has tipped Pauli Pauli as one to watch today.

  • Forty as always with the good oil

    Cheers mate
  • How did Goodall and co go 40.
Still can't believe Kami and Goodall aren't at least in the 17 for NSW cup.
  • Wenty to receive the ball from the kick off.

  • Joseph Ualesi takes the opening charge of the season for Wenty. Wicks is there two tackles later with a good carry before Sam Gorman draws a penalty from the markers.

Touch in found on the 20m line and Pauli hurtles into the line from the tap. Wicks is used again on the next tackle and is followed by Nelson who runs to the posts. Matterson grasses the next pass and Sam Gorman throws it at his knees and Wenty quickly concede a penalty of their own.

  • Solid set from the Bears but they complete it with a terrific kick and chase that drives Adam Quinlan in goals for a line drop out.

North Sydney decide to raid Wenty's right edge first but they hold the push out and the Bears come back to the posts. They run the ball to the opposite edge on the last where Wenty bring the fullback down without any worries.

  • Lol he was Kearneys fav too
  • Completed set for Wenty as they test the Bears out down their left edge before Luke Kelly rolls the ball into touch 10m out from their North Sydney goal line. Very good kick.

Wicks looks for the big shot this set, barely misses it but still completes the tackle. Next play the Bears come up with an error and Wenty will pack in for a scrum 10m into the opposition's half.

  • Lovely backline movement there! Matterson swings to the right to create the play as Kelly and Quinlan use quick hands to put Morgan into space. Morgs steps off his right, beat his opposite and is brought down 2m before the goal line!

Two more chances for Wenty to score and Matterson nearly gets Ualesi over via an offload before Kelly puts in a terrible kick that results in a turnover.

  • Strong carry from Vai Toutai takes Wenty near halfway but Matterson's pass to his backrower down the left, Pauli I believe is awkward and hits the grass for a change over.

The Bears make them Wenty pay for the error as well as Bureta Faraimo shoots in on a 2-on-2, leaving his winger unmarked. Gorman make a great cover tackle 40m downfield but the damage is done as Wenty's line is shot. Two tackles later the Bears cross down Wenty's left via a simple shift and a 3-on-1.

    The conversion is successful.

    North Sydney lead Wenty 6-0

    13min gone.

"I really like Samrani but if JR decides to give him up for MB I think that is a massive mistake.
IMO Samrani should be 1st drop for either centre/ wing if one of our starters is out. Brian Kelly is bog average and not going to get better.
