NRL Transfer Market: Parramatta Eels eye Titans hooker Mitch Rein

Parramatta is eyeing a move to fix a problem position that cruelled their finals campaign — all the latest player movement news.

Parramatta are attempting to solve the problem area that contributed to their faltering finals campaign by signing veteran hooker Mitch Rein.

Without influential dummy-half Reed Mahoney (shoulder) to guide them, the Eels were found wanting in their ability to cover the key hooker position in their run to the finals.

Capable without threatening the opposition, back-up hookers Ray Stone and Joey Lussick were both used by Parramatta coach Brad Arthur with the omission of Mahoney in the club’s season-ending semi-final loss to Penrith proving to be of major significance.

Lussick is headed to St Helens in the UK, creating a spot in the Eels roster.

Rein, 31, has met with the Eels coaching staff after being let go by the Titans, where he has spent the past four seasons.

The 208-game hooker — who has also had stints at St George-Illawarra and Penrith — would add valuable experience to the Eels’ 2022 roster.

  • If there's no backup option coming through you might as well sign a backup with experience, decent back up at the right price.

  • Good back up. It's a yes from me

  • I was hoping we signed him before he went to the Tits. He was at a low price and I've always rated him. Lussick is better imo, but he'd be a great back up.

    • I think that's the general consensus Grunts

  • Not this dwarf!. Why cant we find another Isacc De Gois tall boi. Ray stone is better. for 30 insane minutes

  • What would he bring? How to lose ? How to be a team who doesnt player together. WHAT DOES HE BRING! He was LUCKY to be picked up by the Titans following being cut by the Dragons

  • noooo ..... he tends to overplay his hand way too many times

    • I agree Pork Rind, he was like that at the Dragons where he often made a half brek from dummy half with support and would throw a dummy and get tackled. I thought he improved in that area since he has been at the Titans?

      • he has hasnt improved at the titans. He butchered some plays and threw shocking passes when it mattered most lol he last few games of the season

  • Its a 50/50 for me. Hes got some positives but also some negatives..I wonder if it would be better to wait and see who else might be available before start of 2022 and maybe a lower grade player. At 31 he's getting on a bit

"Slide. Souths rarely hit the lead runner and almost always play out the back to a very deep backline. No need to jam in. Souths want you to jam in, they're banking on it. Move up and slide, they'll run out of room."
