NRL strategy part II?

Given my professional background in journalism and media relations, I try and understand every leak, where it has come from and the strategy behind it.

I've just read the transcript and Jarryd Hayne story again, and I have a new theory. I think the NRL just might be setting up to breach the entire board.

James Hooper, who broke the recordings last night, has had a very good line on what the NRL has held up their sleeves since the beginning. Chances are those transcripts came from someone close to the ranks. So I look at the material leaked and the way it's presented, and to me, the motivation looks like extending the "blame" to the non-breached directors. None of the other directors come out of those transcript recording looking blameless. Already, many of you have asked the very fair question: "Why did the other directors not get breached".

I wonder if the NRL has had its fill, and it's preparing to now breach other directors as well. I'm guessing the level of resistance has taken the NRL by surprise. (It shouldn't have). At this point, there is no impasse to the shambles, and this is going to be a fight to the death. If the NRL wants to fix it, they may see their best option is to take out the entire board. Now, it may just be they want to apply more public pressure to those individuals. Again, that's not going to work. If the NRL wants to fix it, it will need to breach all directors - or two more at the very least which will change the balance of power.

  • They'd look pretty silly if that were their approach . It'd almost look weak and desperate .
  • What!? Shock horror ! the NRL using the media to drag us through the mud again. Far out Phil, they've had months having this info and further months to come to its conclusion.
Now, rightly or wrongly they decide it's not happening quick enough for their liking, so let's do this over!

Seriously if what you suspect is correct, then the NRL are as incompetent and shonky as us plus some.
  • The axe was always going to fall in June.

This lot of leaks about Hayne were being kept up Greenturds sleeve. They were rushed into the media when he quit the NFL to ensure WE can't sign him or get any help from the war chest to sign him. This was always the plan from the nrl.

    • THERE IS NO WAR CHEST

it is a myth can everyone stop mentioning it like it is a real thing
    •  Agree Moff: If Jarryd stays strong and says, if I can't play for the Eels i will go to NSW Rugby Union. That would out promote the NRL and probably draw more crowd. Tv viewers could decline for NRL games and increase for union games. It could not happen to a nicer organisation, the NRL, who is our worst enemy.

  • Hi Phil,

I have a few questions, that you might be able to answer.

    1. Considering the board is under manned, who is looking at the brief the NRL has given to the board, so it can be  analysed as to how they have come up with the breach?

    2. How is it that the NRL CEO and the previous Eels CEO are good friends and former colleagues at the bulldogs, this is not questioned by the media or the NRL board haven't said anything about it. From my professional career, this is a clear conflict of interest. At best a perceived conflict of interest. If NRL comes out and states well the Integrity Unit did the investigation and therefore no conflict of interest, that still doesn't mollify the fact that the NRL CEO held a press conference spruiking the breaches.

    3. Why has the NRL only released a signed statement by the previous Eels CEO. WHy haven't they released the transcripts of the interview/s held by the Integrity Unit with the previous Eels CEO.

These questions are not about the Eels having not done anything wrong, however, if you think we have journalism in the NRL that is unbiased and investigative, you are deluded. If we were lucky enough to have a joint Fairfax/4 Corners investigation, the NRL would not be able to obfuscate there obligations in investigating the allegations that are constantly in the community about TPA rorts' by some big clubs.

    • Why don't we ask Todd? He will be on Twitter's Blue Room to answer questions #AskTodd Thursday from 4pm (on twitter).
  • 1. Maybe 1 of the other directors was the moll inside the organisation leaking to the Telecrap.

    2. The media has been saying all the players and agents are completely blameless, but suddenly Jarryd Hayne is the only guilty player?

  • Your right Nonna, Our game is completely corrupt, its one big front from those in charge, everybody is corrupt (except the players LOL) and everybody ends up being part of it because once you step in the Synergy is corrupted, and everybody feeds off it, it spreads throughout the food chain.

I think this whole thing has put a completely new perspective on the workings of the game for many supporters of the game.

We are serial cheats and so is everybody else but we are just dumber than the rest.

  • Breach them. Let them have their day in court later on. In the interim, the Eels would have a shot to clean up their act without legacy cheats and egos. Breach them.
