Here it is, another pre-game stats blog.
Some interesting ones in here, and certainly not some good memories for Eels fans on some occasions.

NRL Rd 6 Pre-Game Stats Blog

Canberra Raiders

General Information

It was not a day to remember for the Canberra Raiders in their first clash against the Eels, as they were obliterated 54-3 on April 11, 1982 at Belmore Oval. That day saw Eric Grothe Sr. score four tries, as well as hat-tricks for Mick Cronin and Peter Sterling.

The two teams have played each other in Rd 6 twice before - firstly in a 19-6 victory for the Eels at Belmore Oval on April 14, 1984 and secondly in a 10-8 win for the Eels at Pirtek Stadium on April 17, 1993.

The Raiders did not win a game at Pirtek Stadium in their first four attempts. Their first win at the venue came in the 1991 season.

To date, the 68-0 drubbing at the hands of the Canberra Raiders in 1993, is the Eels heaviest defeat in their history.
It is also the Raiders biggest win in their history by margin.

The Eels failed to win a game at GIO Stadium in their first five attempts. Their first win at the venue came in 1996.

  • Raiders are a good team, Siezer has only played a couple of games but he is a good player. This game will be a battle of the halves. To be honest Foran has been a little underwhelming so far, hope he has a big one this week.
    • If we can target Hodgson and upset his delivery it will make a big difference to their go forward
    • Sezer showed last week just how good he is.
He controlled the game for the Raiders against the Dogs and gave them absolutely nothing. Pinpoint passes and kicks, and the Dogs were always on the ropes.

And I don't think Foran has been underwhelming by any means.
Sure, he's not at the peak of his game yet, but his hammy is always improving and within a few weeks - by his own admission and some of the medical staff - it'll be at 100%.

And what he has done is take a lot of responsibility away from the hands of Norman, who is free to run the ball a bit more as he likes to do.

  • People underestimate that garden gnome croker which probably why he score that many tries. Good lil player. Keep an eye on him and beware of Hodgson 40/20 and sneaky kicks close the line.
    • Underestimate a player like Croker at one's own peril.

He's a quality player and centre, and he has a phenomenal point-scoring record.
He'll go past David Furner as the Raiders highest ever point-scorer this year in the next couple of weeks.
      I rate him highly.

And Hodgson is in the form of his life, that's for sure.

  • That is never easy, though.
Hodgson reads the game and the defence tremendously well, so we'll have to well & truly rush up to him and apply the pressure right up in his face, if we're to stop his momentum.
