NRL Rd 3 Pre-Game Statistics Blog

The next lot of NRL statistics is now available. With a big clash against the Bulldogs this week, the club has had ups and downs against them in the past.
Some good wins, some bad wins and some bogey venues.

Post-NRL Era

The very first clash between the Parramatta Eels and the Canterbury Bulldogs was the 10th of May, 1947, a game the Eels lost 35-15 at Belmore Sports Ground. Frank McMillan was our coach then.

The two sides have played each three times in Rd 3 of a NSWRFL season, in 1954, 1968 and 1979.

Belmore Oval was not a happy hunting ground for the Eels against the Dogs, with just 15 wins from 50 games at a winning percentage of just 30%.
Cumberland Oval was somewhat better for the Eels against the Dogs, with 19 wins & 1 draw from 38 games at a winning percentage of 50%.
At Parramatta Stadium, the Eels have won 2 out of 6 games at a winning percentage of 33.3%.

The two sides have played out four draws in their history. A 9-all draw in 1953, a 6-all draw in 1962, a 7-all draw in 1976 and a 16-all draw in 1992.

The biggest win for the Eels against the Dogs at Belmore Oval was a 38-14  victory on April 4, 1971.
Their biggest loss at the venue was on April 12, 1993, when the Eels lost 42-6.
Conversely, at Cumberland Oval, the Eels biggest win over the Dogs was a 37-point win on April July 21, 1968.
Their biggest loss to the Dogs at the same venue was a 13-point loss, also in 1947, on August 23.
The Eels biggest loss to the Dogs at Parramatta Stadium pre-NRL era was  a 38-10 defeat on June 5, 1988.

The Eels only game at the Lidcombe Sports Ground against the Dogs was a 21-6 loss on March 1 in a Pre-Season Cup.
The Eels only game at the SFS against the Dogs was a 6-all draw on June 17, 1962.
The Eels have played the Dogs three times at Leichhardt Oval in a 24-12 Amco Cup triumph in 1975, a 16-7 1980 Tooth Cup triumph and a 19-18 1981 Tooth Cup loss.
The Eels have played the Dogs at the WACA once, an 18-12 triumph on May 8, 1982.

1963 marked the first year since the Eels inception into the NSWRFL in 1947, that the club beat the Bulldogs twice in a season.

Current NRL Era

The first clash between the Eels and the Bulldogs in the NRL era was a 22-14 win on April 11, 1998.
It was also the first year of the NRL era that saw the Eels beat the Bulldogs in both regular season games.
The Eels first loss to the Bulldogs at Parramatta Stadium was an 18-16 loss on June 11, 1999.

The first draw between the two sides in the NRL era was a 20-all draw on April 11, 2001. Overall, it is the fifth draw between the two sides in their history.

At Parramatta Stadium, the Eels have won 4 out of 6 games & 1 drawn game at a winning percentage of 57.15%.
At Belmore Oval, the Eels have won 1 out of 1 games at a winning percentage of 100%.
At the SFS, the Eels have won 0 out of 1 games at a winning percentage of 0%.
At ANZ Stadium, the Eels have won 10 out of 27 games at a winning percentage of 37.04%.

Since Brad Arthur has been coach, the Eels have won just 1 game from 4 against the Bulldogs, a winning percentage of just 25%.

The Eels biggest win against the Bulldogs in the NRL era was a 56-4 drubbing on August 12, 2005, at Pirtek Stadium.
Conversely, the Eels heaviest defeat against the Bulldogs was a 34 point loss on March 13, 2004 at ANZ.

The Bulldogs biggest collapse came against us in 2004. The Eels were trailing 20-0 after 44 minutes in the March 15, 2008 clash, before surrendering that lead, resulting in 28-20 Eels win.

  • Nice read mate, I noted that the 2005 stat should be 56-4, played at Parramatta Stadium.
    • Haha, an oversight on my part.
      All fixed.
Cheers, TFF, and glad you enjoyed it.
