The Parramatta Eels have finally landed the signature of skipper Clint Gutherson on a three-year contract after months of tense negotiations.

The Daily Telegraph understands the deal is worth around the $2.3 million mark.

Gutherson’s manager Sam Ayoub met with Parramatta chairman Sean McElduff and general manager of football Mark O’Neill in a Leichhardt café on Friday.

It is understood the negotiations broke down at the meeting but the parties resumed talks on Friday night to finally agree on a deal.

It was a crucial signing for Parramatta a week after they lost Isaiah Papali’i to the Wests Tigers and Marata Niukore to the Warriors.

The club is now urgently trying to convince hooker Reed Mahoney and front-rower Junior Paulo to reject offers from rivals to stay.

The deal keeps the 27-year-old Gutherson at the club until the end of the 2025 season which will be his 10th season at the club.

  • I guess its good news, but I really hope that it fits into place the signing of Reed and Jnr.

Based on what is shown on line for his current contract of $780K a year, his new one at 2.3K is actually at a lessor amount of $760K.

  • I guess that's alright. Less than 800k a year. Actually it's a very good deal.

    • Zero Tackle add it up to $766.66. per year.

      • I would stick to the 6 theme Colin ,$ 766,666.66.Easier for him to remember if he ever feels short changed.

        • Pay him in Sixpences? would run the reserve bank out coins.

          • haha Colin the club won,t do that mate. He would not have time to train as most of his time he would be counting. Seriously though. Gutho for me is one of the best fullback defenders in the comp..I agree with some ---he would possibly better be swapping with Dylan for his playmaking role. I don,t know the players at all--my guess is that Gillard may have the composure for the Captaincy role

  • Happy with that deal definitely not worth anymore then that

  • Reading through many different supporters site sentiments,  nearly all were dreading having Gutherson at their clubs, and said he was overrated.

    • You probably wrote them all

    • Gutho is hated because of his "king" nickname which he doesn't want but Joey Johns didn't stop calling him.
