Nrl needs to bring in a “red card”

Kaufusi elbows matto, matto ruled out for rest of game and kaufusi is allowed to play.

Now, i agree it was not a send off offence, but if matto cant play rest of game due to foul play, then kaufusi should be allowed either.

I'd like to see a red card type rule introduced where the player causing the foul gets sent off for the rest of game, but the team is allowed to use their bench player replace him. This way, the game still remains 13 v 13 but 16 v 17 overall.

i just feel a penalty and putting the incident on report is not enough of a penalty for the offending team.
If the injured player is ruled out of the game, due to foul play, then the offending player should sit out rest of game.

  • I like the idea of the red card rule, but it can't be linked to injury of the opposition, it should just be linked to rule breaking regardless of the outcome.

  • He should of gone for ten.

    • The NRL rules refer to refs discretion about the sin bin in response to foul play but also say if the ref thinks the foul play "significant enough" then the player is placed on report. So, Klein placed Kaufusi on report, Matto is concussed, but somehow that is NOT a sin bin? What else needs to happen? The player has to be wearing yellow?

Should have been 10 mins in the bin. Will be interesting to see if in the Monday presser the NRL admits Klein should have binned him. The Roosters would be all over the media about it already!

        • Wasn't MJ binned in just that circumstance, Brissyeel? 2019?

          • Yes Daz, he was. I thought it was 2018, but it may have been 2019. It was against the Panthers in round 1.

            • Checked nrl.com

              Round 1, 2019, MJ binned in 53rd min. Eels 20, Panthers 12.

This kind of inconsistency feeds perceptions of bias!

              • I know BA doesn't like to bag the officials in the presser, but when he was asked about that incident last night and why it wasn't a sin binning, I would have loved for him to say: "Why don't you ask that question on Monday when they do the ref review?"

            • He's far from the best ref, so he should never get the match of the round. If he is in the top 8 refs, then so be it, but he should never be on games like last night.

            • The only defence I can give Klein is that the video ref after reviewing informed Klein that it only required a penalty.

I hate the video ref and everything about it.
