People have move on from the folou issue it was years ago.
That said it seems bit unusual in same week nrl say they won't register barba on cap for less then $650k, Thaiday is rumored to resign for under $300K and earlier in year Sims signed for 50K.
OK Sims not rep player but definitely not minimum wage player either. He was rumored for origin prior to signing contract. Then compare thaiday and barba. One is long term origin and test player while the other never played rep footy. 1 has heap of baggage that the other doesn't and if didn't know people or clubs involved who would you say is the higher paid player.
I understand TPA Advantages for certain clubs but if nrl was serious they would ensure all players were on cap at value at all clubs. TPAs were meant be sponsorship money on top of cap value. It has turned into cash from rich fans and nothing to do with sponsorship. It has also replaced money meant to be on cap.
The reason I think is nrl need a strong broncos in qld. They broncos haven't been down yet beyond 1 and a half seasons but as seen with other clubs well performing club keeps fans engaged and interested in footy and their team. A losing team sees numbers at game and on TV drop. What would happen if broncos had few quiet bad years.
I don't think the nrl want to find out as many so called bronco fans are not even footy fans. They follow and watch broncos only (possibly cause there on prime time every week) and will turn off if broncos hit long term slump for couple years
So why don't nrl release info that people leaving for a different code need to come back at same value. I have never heard that but only heard players have a nominal value but what you say makes sense.
BUT even scenario doesn't fit in $BW case when he returned to roosters on understand from previous contract.
On top of poor administration the poor communication of rules and changing of rules depending on team or player involved is not good look for nrl.
They don't want make rules and guidelines public as they want to be able to change then at will. What happened to jarryd hayne and Foran having to answer hard questions before their return when linked with parra but condition dropped when other teams involved.
"We might well take a step back In 2027. I expect in any given year that up to half of all clubs will perform worse than the year before and up to half will perform better. Every club has a long term average for performance that correlates to their…"
"Yes we are building, that is my point, we are building but potentially we could take a step back in 2027 if our solution at 6 is a rookie with no first grade experience or very little. "
"Gus has been sorting his spine since 21'. Five years. We've almost sorted ours in a year or so. JR isn't blind: he's looking for a long-term six. Right now.
Who? Lorenzo, Pap, Risati, a recruit. Not sure. I love Paps. Hope he stays. But Risati seems…"
