  • Again the NRL relies on people handing them information on a platter. Why bother having complex rules if they cannot police them? This investigation into potential cap breaches should have been comprehensively dealt with last year.

    • Quite simply, they don't want to hear about it. Everyone knows the current situation of the salary cap is ridiculous. Asking the clubs to hand over information if they're cheating the cap is like asking cyclists to self-report if they're doping.

    • Agree 100% LF, they are just hoping it will go away. as I have said many times on here they declared after the Eels were handed punishment that there next target would be Player Managers. That investigation has gone nowhere and never had any legs. The NRL, Players and Player Managers all know what is going on.

I am certain that it is widespread among many clubs and so far as someone pointed out in a previous blog the NRL is acting like the 3 Wise Monkeys.

  • lol Manly once again will get off scott free, just like the last 3 or 4 times these grubs were investigated.

    • If the police task force has proof nrl hands are bound if they dont do a through investigation and hand everything over they are accomplices
  • Without an internal person spilling the beans, nothing will happen. There has been nothing done re the quoted " this is how it's done at the Broncos" or the fact that Seward had obviously used the same payment system he had seen at his previous club

Toddy Boy smirks and looks the other way, there will be no evidence at Narrabeen, they wouldn't have found anything at the Storm until a disgruntled ex employee told them about a second filing cabinet with contracts in it. All a sham to suggest they are doing something
  • Manly has a few disgruntled former employees at the moment so interesting this upcoming out now.
Hopefully this time nrl don't just hit manly with punishment but follow up with an amnesty for all clubs to come clean. They should have done this after parra. If caught after the amnesty then double the penalties and keep team from recruiting outside the club for 2 years and playing finals for 2 years. This would only work if they then change rules and ensure all players are signed for fair value against cap going forward regardless of which club it is and how much access 3rd parties they have. Can't cheat the cap if player is recognised at minimum of the average market value for salary cap.
3rd party sponsorships would then be for players earn extra money above cap value by providing a service for the sponsor. Would keep dodgy back door dealings to a minimum as well.
    • If the NRL were smart they would have called an amnesty when Parra's dramas were unfolding last year as it was clear it was not just Parra. Instead  they chose to throw the book at us and as Manly are ahead of us on the table, I would expect nothing less than a points loss as the precedence has been set. They could have called an amnesty last year and come up with a system that worked but Greenberg chose to go down the way of punishment after punishment and then more punishment. If there is evidence, they have to lose points and be fined and personnel deregistered. That is the precedence Greenberg set

  • These one off punishments clearly don't work. Clubs will weigh up the risks vs rewards and will take a punt that they will get away with it as long as they keep their employees happy. The NRL has no idea how to deal with this and it has become a farce.
  • The NRL telegraphed the Investigation about a month ago. Those shredders have been working overtime.

How dumb is the NRL, or telegraphing the investigation suits their purposes.
