Nrl integrity unit, are they going to far?

I was just listening to De Gois's interview and the reporters asked him 3 questions he had no comment on.One of the questions was: what do you this about the NRL doing spot raids on players to avoid situations like what has happened on the Gold Coast drug scandal. The nrl want to beef up the power the given to NRL integrity unit to be able to search phones and computers to catch players out.Is this too far and an invasion of privacy or is it what the NRL needs to clean the image of NRL up?

  • If you give the NRL this kind of power, then you must give it to the governing bodies of all professions.

Too much of an invasion of privacy for the innocent.

  • Tough one isn't it. It's the same as the debate currently raging over the govt wanting more surveillance powers over the public to catch out terrorism. Damned if u do damned if u don't. I tend to lean towards not giving them these extra powers as it will be open to abuse and eventually it will be abused u can count on that.
  • Stupid and easy to get around if they did.
    • Ye no doubt if the players know they will be watched in this way then they won't be stupid enough to communicate through devices that they know will be checked. Then all u end up with is an ineffective way of catching these players out but the nrl would still have these powers to invade players privacy. Big no for me.
  • Doubt if NRL could under any legislation search peoples private phones and computers. Only with phones and computers actually owned by NRL could they do that!

"I really like Samrani but if JR decides to give him up for MB I think that is a massive mistake.
IMO Samrani should be 1st drop for either centre/ wing if one of our starters is out. Brian Kelly is bog average and not going to get better.
