An unlucky punter has watched on as a $1 million payday turned to dust as the Eels fell apart against the Bulldogs on Monday.
The Eels have come under fire this week following their shock upset 34-4 loss to their western Sydney rivals.
For one punter, the result was a sucker punch.
It has come to light that an Aussie punter’s $5 multi-bet, spread across 15-legs, was about to deliver a life-changing payday — only for the Eels fail him at the final hurdle.
The bet slip posted online to a Facebook supporters group shows the fan’s 15 separate bets across the NBA Finals, AFL and NRL had all been winners — until the Eels’ shock loss.
The bet included several brave gambles on the Boston Celtics winning Game 3 of the NBA Finals, and Collingwood upsetting Melbourne on Monday.
It all fell apart when the punter backed the Eels to win by 13+ against the Bulldogs.
Sportsbet’s Sean Ormerod has confirmed the betting slip was legitimate and that the punter stood to win almost $1 million if the bet had have been successful.

Which bookie was it with? Most have an early cash out option. Should have probably taken that option at some point.
Sportsbet.
Not all multi bets have the cash out option. Especially when selecting "exotic" legs as they call them.
Poor prick had to wait and watch 80 minutes of what would have been a life changing collect.
I bet ya he didn't watch the full 80 mins. Because he would have thrown a brick at the screen by half time.
Could still have layed off on the dogs though at a minimum. Not for a patch on the million but surely could have scrimped and scraped off anybody and everybody to at least have a decent collect?
Good point Malpik.
Exactly Mapik. Bulldogs +12.5 was probably paying $2, so even 10 grand on that equals 10 grand profit. And if the multi got up, well 10 grand off a million is no harm done. Hell i'd have put 100 grand on it at that point, although if I remember correctly, the 14th leg being the AFL game was on the same day, which probably complicated it a bit.
Does this make the result any more suss?
Was thinking the same.
Krupty your smarter than that!
Sorry Carlo but you need to stop thinking this way.....who would stand to win on your basis i.e. the bookie saves a million, how much would it have cost to bribe Parra to lose and how would you do that and not having bookies all over the net calling a fix for the people that then backed the dogs.
Yes gambling can be destructive and yes there has been coruption since the roman chariot races but the technology now effectively makes all bets (especially large ones as traceable).
