NRL checks Cartwright's salary sacrifice

The NRL has asked Parramatta to hold off announcing the signing of Bryce Cartwright as the NRL Integrity Unit looks into a couple of things that raised concern.

The NRL has been doing its due diligence on Cartwright's exit from the Gold Coast, with the former Panthers backrower walking away from a $600,000 deal with the Titans for a $130,000 deal with the Eels.

There is no suggestion of any wrongdoing, however given the significant salary sacrifice, the NRL wants to make sure everything is above board before the Eels announce his deal.

  • The Tigers are happy to sign Mansour on a two-year deal, but not three. Parramatta are also keen to lure him to the club, which has received glowing recommendations from a number of ex-Panthers in the squad, however it requires Ayoub finding a new home for his other client, Blake Ferguson

    • Unless Furgo is injured I do not see why we would not keep him

      • I agree. I don't think Mansour is an upgrade on Fergo. They are both 30 years of age. Fergo had some mistakes in him this year, but I'm tipping him to bounce back.

        • LOL - wasn't it you who was calling for Fergo's head just a few weeks ago because of his HIGH mistake rate?

          Hello pot (head)

      • Maybe this is what is in the pipeline? The article suggested the acquisition of Mansour would mean the departure of Fergo.

  • Cartwright was never worth 600 000 in the first place. He hasn't even been able to make the Titans team. If they don't allow it then he won't get a spot with any club. They let roosters and storm do this crap all the time

    • Roosters, Storm, Souths all play by different rules.

    • If Cartwright to Eels isn't given the tick of approval for $130,000 because of the salary discrepancies, you can bet that Cartwright will be at the Roosters next year for $50,000 with a can of coke and Mars bar thrown in.  Roosters and Storm can get away with anything in this league.

  • Even at 130k there are those that are against it

It is a reasonable trial and train deal for someone who can no longer make the bench of a bottom four side

    • Your point is a valid one, Wile even though the Titans are no longer a bottom four side, Wile. They finished 9th and they would have powered into the top 8 had the season been full length instead of 4 games short. Next season, I  think they will be a top 8 side.
