NRL blog: Hynes incident, is it that bad?

So Nicho Hynes went up to touch judge Belinda Sharpe, holding three fingers up initiating the that is the 3rd call she has called against them that was not right. The forward pass was incorrect, though Hynes i felt didn't do anything too bad, compared to Gutho and Moses haha. I feel had it been a male touchie this would be nothing, honestly. But since it was Belinda Sharpe, he called her out on her poor calls, they didn't like it. I feel this has gone massively overboard, as if refs aren't protected enought, female refs are even more protected. I understand it is great for the game to have female referees, but when they are refereeing men, you have to understand you are talking to men in the heat of the moment. Not saying she can be treated different, she should be treated same as any ref or touchie but seriously, Hynes did not swear, get in her face, or even yell aggressively.

What are everyone else's thoughts?

  • If it's as you described then it's a nothing story. Somehow the PC brigade will find a sexist angle.

    • That is what annoys me about this, if it was a normal touch judge, say Liam Kennedy, it is brushed off and i doubt the ref even talks to Hynes he would likely tell him to move on.

Again, Moses and Gutho approach the refs in a worse manner by charging at them, Nicho didn't even do that.

      • On one hand you have the Indigenous poster boy , on the other you have a stunning and brave female smashing the patriarchy.  Popcorn ready.

I guess it will depend on which minority we are celebrating this week. Is she gay by any chance ?  I think a gay woman trumps an indigenous male in the pecking order. But an Indigenous male on one of the 5 or 6 black rounds would have her covered.

        • As an indigenous man, i actually agree in the sense they can be protected. Hynes is a poster child as he is a nice guy etc. It does not bother me too much but no player should be seen as that. Added nobody should be looked after due to their sex or race, in my opinion you want equality then you cop it like we do if it is warranted.

        • Lol

  • To be fair, women have no place officiating the mens game. They're fucking hopeless and they are too emotional. I've seen enough of Badger both live and on TV to know she has zero feel for the game and can't get the vibe. The women should stick to the NRLW and stay away from the men.

She probably thought he was offering two in the pink and one in the stink.

    • I wouldn't go that far but i think they should be treated the same as men. They want equality then they are treated the same as the men in the same roles.

      • They're terrible officials. That one in question was a bloody journalist prior to deciding to be an NRL official. No feel, for the mens game as they've never played it at any level.  That pass Hynes threw was spot on, however it was simply too quick for her to judge so she ruled it forward.replays show he was well within his rights to blow up. Badger is forever making incorrect and dumb calls. They don't belong in the mens game as they're not there on the fact they're better at their job than any other applicant , they're there because of their vagina.

    • I wouldn't go that far but they do make a number of shit calls!

Recently the girl in the bunker has made very poor calls!

They need to improve or get out and stick with the women's comp!

  • Moses and Gutho are worse. They whinge constantly throughout the game
