Not taking our opportunities

1. We could have had four more tries but lost the ball over the line, last pass was forward, could not get the ball down. This is not a one off. Mennings has been stuffing tries for the last two years - stuffed twice as many as he has got (does well to get there and does well in defense but needs to nail the opportunities). Too often the attempted try scorer gets dominated and cannot score.

2. When other teams make a break (eg Su'a) they have multiple support players there to convert the break into a try. We have no-one.

3. If the penalty is in front of the posts we have a 99.9% chance of 2 points = 2 points on average or a 10% chance of 4 to six points = 0.5 points (on average). We should mostly be taking the two points e.g before Matagi dropped it. But we don't take our opportunities - especially when the refs are handing out 20 penalties a game. In general the team who converts a penalty is the most likely team to score next.

  • Ive come to the conclusion that the loss of semi has been more than a mere transitionary phase. It has completely stunted our attack and we dont know how to get out of it

We need a new coach to bring some fresh ideas and to spark our offence which brad is not doing at the moment.

Souths were in a similar predicament the last two years (since luke left) before seibold brought in cook and compeltely dumped farah which helped spark their attack again.

We need french and gutherson supporting players like alvaro waiting around the ruck lurking for an offload
    • I swear we are the worst team for supporting each other in attack
      • The reason our support play is so bad is because it has basically been coached out of us, one out running with no offloads or 2nd phase play doesn't require support play, in fact it discourages it as you are just wasting energy supporting when you are no chance of getting the ball. We actually played a style that needs support play on Thursday night but its not something that comes naturally when you haven't had to do it for so long. If we continue to play like we did the other night the support play will eventually improve and tries will come.

  • Fair points Wile, Jennings lost concentration for that split second twice and cost us 2 tries. He is better than that and should of done a lot better. We expect more from an experienced rep player like he is.

  • takers and french were strong i think there well suited as a combo, Takers strong good defender and a great offload, french has speed to burn, i am expecting a few tries from their side as there combo groes.
  • Jenning and Jennings, George has been good, needs to work on his defence, but Micheal keeps letting me down, he has always been our first outside back picked, but im not so sure, if hayne replaces anyone i think he replaces MJ.
