But NZ were aweful
International Rugby League is not the highest level of the game. Origin is...
Rugby League should let go of this whole international concept and start transitioning to more of a NFL/ American approach to sport.... its the only way the code will progress. Its been 30 years since we started really pushing for international footy and still nations like NZ, Fiji, Tonga and Samoa cannot compete
if they keep having their best players poached, of course they wont.
They go well in tournaments when they get some time together but can't compete in the 1 off mid year test against experienced Aussie side.
As for other nations the majority of players for Tonga, somoa and fiji never lived there or moved to Australia before age of 5. They are propped up by Aussie players playing for their heritage. The few exemptions are Fijian players like semi and vunivalu but you would struggle field half a team of mixed pacific island team of players who lived on islands for more then 5 years each.
International footy has a place but not mid season and not 1 off tests.
