Can anyone on this site give me advice on which small-mid SUV to buy. Looking at Hyundai IX35, Holden Captiva, Toyota Rav 4, Nissan Qashqai or Maxda CX5. Does anyone own any of these cars or can anyone give me advice on value for money, performance, etc. looking to spend under 40k so not looking at a diesel model. Any advice most welcome!

  • I have had two friends with captivas, and both had nothing but trouble.
    • Funny thing about the Captiva diesels .good friend of mine works at Holden and was telling me that they are very careful to advise buyers if they are buying this vehicle they have to treat them rough. The particular diesels need to be worked and revved hard. They have too many returned due to so called soccer mums treating the vehicle too nicely.
I have a 2011 ford territory diesel and it's an absolute ripper. The petrol territories are
Crap but the diesels are the boss.
Mine has over 220k on the clock (my wife's ex company car) and I hope it lasts for another 10.
  • My wife has the 2.2l diesel and its great on klms and it absolutely rips

  • Rav, Toyotas can't beat!
  • The qashqai's are quite good, but maybe look at the x trail as well, I work for a nissan dealership and prefer the xtrail, but thats just my opinion. Have you thought about the mitsubishi outlander? They are a great car
  • WTF is this, BGL this isnt an episode of top gear, how about joining the cave and putting this where it should be.

    • Hoo-Ray!
  • Look at a Subaru Forrester or similar subaru model, great cars, I had an Outback and my daughter has a Forrester no problems. My Outback had 280,000k's on the clock before I traded it in.
  • Id grab the mazda mate we have had a mazda for years never had any troubles with them and easybto run and great on fuel
  • Subaru Forrester for me, I'm on my 2nd one now, as I flip them every 3 yrs for work/ lease arrangements. I only paid $800 more for my current Forrster compared to my original  purchase price 3 yrs earlier and my current Forrester has a lot more bells & whistles. Pick the right time when you go car shopping as the car yards fall over themselves in trying to do deals.

Added bonus  is they hold their resale value extremely well
