Norman suspended for 8 weeks !

Parramatta Eels half Corey Norman has been suspended by the NRL for eight rounds of the 2016 season, which will see him unavailable for selection until the end of Round 26.Norman, who has already served one match after being stood down for the club’s Round 19 game, will also be fined $20,000.The penalty has the full support of the club, and the Eels will continue to work with Corey to ensure his welfare is supported in the coming weeks.

  • It was always going to happen.. 2 months is heavy, but to some fair.
I wonder if this has an impact on him resigning with us.
Even though it's an NRL imposed sanction, u would have to think those closest to him would be telling him to get a fresh start
  • Those clowns who thought he'd get 1-2 weeks are the ultimate unicorn dreamers.
  • Pearce humps a dog admits to being on drugs. Gets less lol. You'd think Greenberg would take affence to the dog part.
  • Fair penalty I reckon.

If this penalty affected his decision to sign with us (it won't) it would be a ridiculous position for the player to take. Unless of course he is accusing the club of planting the tic tacs in his pocket!

I see a long career at the Eels ahead for Normz :))

  • Until the end of round 26. That's fine I look forward to seeing him play round 27.
  • At least he'll be back for the semis ;)

  • The NRL is so riddled with politics it isn't funny. 8 games is exactly what Pearce copped (coincidence?). No. Absolutely no doubt the Roosters would have been in the NRL's ear about it. And no doubt the club hated being told this was the punishment. Actually embarassing how politicised sport is in the current era. Even the administrator taking over our Leagues club was Todd asking old mate Mike for a favour. Ludicrous. The decision increases Corey's risk of another incident. He now has NOTHING to train for, nothing to prepare for. Except his end of season trip. 2017 is too far way to be a motivator. And pre-season training? Hardly something to get excited about. Poorly thought out punishment based purely on politics and appeasing others to look "consistent". Why not 6 weeks so he can come back for the last 2 rounds? How did they come to 8? If we were in finals contention (i.e were going to make it) would he be out of the finals too? How convenient that his ban ends after Rd 26, when we won't be in the finals anyway. The decision fails to think about Corey in any way, and is all about the NRL pretending to be fair. Everything they do is so pragmatic and illogical it's not funny. Does ANYONE truly believe it's a COINCIDENCE that:
    a) He copped 8 games (how did they judge this offence was worth 8 games, not 5, 7 or 11?)
    b) 8 games is when the season is over for the Eels (uncanny isn't it)
    c) Pearce copped 8 weeks (obviously the 2 offences are so similar in nature, not) earlier in the year.
Could not make this stuff up!
    • He could have been suspended alot longer for the drug possession alone. Ontop of that there was the Sex tape and the snap chat video. Norman is lucky he didnt get sacked completely.
Pearce did his over 1 drunken night. Normans was over a period of less than a month. He deserves everything that he got
  • Fair penalty imo, convicted on two counts in court, he's dragged the club through the mud even more than it has been and this isn't the only time he's been a dope, he's only got himself to blame, Corey has let the team down.

The type of guy that Corey has shown himself to be he will probably go into training on monday and be cracking jokes infront of the media cameras, and laughing his head off, he still gets paid the next 8 weeks, i hope he learns something from this but i doubt it.

    • Whilst i disagree in principal with NRL's policy of punishment when it comes to these matters, I truly hope Corey learns some valuable life lessons from this. I think he is an exceptionally talented player and one of the best we have had in a long while, however he does often appear to be kidding around which in itself isnt an altogether bad thing but from time to time I would like for him to appear more professional and adult, something like Cooper Cronk. Also he may now realise now that if you behave like a dick head, eventually everyone will treat you like one.

"I got excited thinking maybe a Winger, but seems he is a middle forward. We have plenty of them coming through with Talagi, Koina and Popo.
Hopefully he can be an edge where we have Funa-Iuta and Petrus as the only really great prospects in junior…"
