No Third SOO Game Needed Now.

The State Of Origin series has been decided. So why have the third game, why have a dead rubber? No reason at all except for the TV moguls lust for more profit. They will have their way. So as an alternative I suggest that any player who does not wish to play in the third game be given an exemption. That way NRL clubs will not be handicapped by missing their star players in the third ,dead-rubber game -- assuming that the star players don`t wish to play the third game. For example, Jarryed Hayne could be given an exemption from the third game and thus be available for the Eels game. Same for Hoppa. Parramatta would need to produce an acceptable compensation for Jarryed and William because the money they get for Origin is quiet attractive.

  • Won't happen. Ever.

Players play their way into form and play out of position (Dugan) for a chance to play Origin.

    Money isn't an issue.

A whitewash is more fuel for bragging rights and sets up the following series.

QLD held an 8 year dynasty. NSW will want to replicate that. That's Origin.

  • Game 3 will be a cracker and anyone that doesn't want it doesn't have a clue about the game.
  • I don't care if our stars sit out or feign injury for the week. I would be happy to just see a 3rd game where several decent all in brawls erupt and we get what most of us wanted to see last night, a decent blue.

Jamie Lyon can do whatever suits him. If he wanted to play next year I'm sure they would consider him.

  • Are you for real?! I can guarantee you not 1 player will want to stand down for game 3! There is no such thing as a dead rubber. Every origin game has meaning! These boys would want nothing more then to embarrass qld in front of there home fans and win the series 3-0!
    • If you went up to Paul Gallen, Jarryd Hayne, Greg Bird, Cam Smith, JT, Slater, Farrah etc and told them not to play game 3 because it is a "dead rubber" they would laugh at you. Game three means just as much to the players as games 1 and 2! Let's say they scrap game 3, and the week that Hayne should have been in origin camp he plays for parra and breaks his leg.. Would you say that they should never have scrapped game 3 because a player got injured when he should have been in origin camp? You can't just assume that a player is going to get injured in origin and miss a substantial amount of time at club level. It's a contact sport, players get injured week in week out. It's unfortunate but it's the reality of the sport!
  • I'm sure Paul Green and all the Cowboys supporters don't agree with point 1 & 4 Brett.

Point 3 - The biggest thing to change is the Salary Cap and the mechanics of it, limiting the ability of clubs to stockpile decent players in each position to cover for an injury during Origin

  • Robert, each player makes $30k on top of their club salary to play an Origin game.

What do you think the players will say??

    •  Bourbon Man I am well aware of the $30k etc, that is why I said such platers will need to be compensated.

As for what the players will say?--after SOO1 almost all players complained to the media about the load being put upon them. Some failed to perform in games a week after SOO1. We have players coming out and asking for stand alone SOO--no competition games for a three week period etc. Here we have the opportunity to ease that load by abolishing a meaningless game (which will not happen because of TV interests who care for profits and not player welfare) or to allow players to be exempted from that meaningless game.

  • You answered your own question with that last bit.

The money they earn is quite attractive, therefore no chance in hell of them passing up that dosh for guaranteed income from clubs.
  • It goes back in passion, tradition, and rivalry, nothing's more humiliating then a clean sweep, in which qld will desperately ant to avoid, and nsw desperately want to obtain
