Next Season and Beyond...

Ok, these are just my thoughts... I think we need to let SK build a team that he wants. He will be obviously after a 7 and a 9 for next year and beyond. I for one am prepared to be patient. Lets face it, Brian Smith let us down on 2, possible 3 occasions when we should have won the comp and had every right to be angry, frustrated and disappointed. Anderson over-achieved in his first year, it would have been great to win it but I think we would have been better off bombing out in the semis. That way we wouldn't have had so much expectation on us this and then built towards a possible title tilt in 2011. SK has everyhitng we need and is taking ahuge career risk in being our head coach (the most dreaded role in the NRL along with wearing the blue & gold No.7), therefore he doesn't need th pressure. Too much pressure on the team will lead to possible departures of our big stars...

I think a reasonable finish in 2011 would be 5th or 6th and not going past week 2 of the semis... thoughts?

  • I think your on the money. I think their goal (apart from the obvious of winning the whole thing) is to make the 8 first and formost. Make sure you win ALL of your home games, and be competitive as hell when your travelling. I think young Mortimer will be better after having an off season and reflecting on how demanding the NRL is after having a bumper debut season. Parramatta is always going to be under pressure though. They are expected to produce every week, and I believe the players and coaching staff need to be able to combat this somehow. Mental toughness is playing a huge part in the game now.
  • Andy i sort of agree with you there.
We don't need to put pressure on the team being its fans.
We need to support the team through its rough times and hopefully help them in whatever ways we can to give them confidence to win every single game.
Im not expecting the eels to go all the way next year, but at least for starters, i would want them to win every single home game :)
They should make it their fortress like Manly did at Brookvale for so long.
  • Andy - I completely agree with you, but I think it is impossible.

As a result of Parramatta not winning for so long - the fans are hungry and unfortunately, patience is not something which we as Parra fans do well. Look at all the rumour blogs - instead of waiting patiently, fans are DEMANDING that we be told what is going on. All will be revealed in good time.

Ando is a perfect example - over achieved and then punted for not achieving results. SK needs time to build the team he wants, without the pressure of the fans, board and management demanding instant results.

I sincerely hope he gets his chance.
  • Andy I agree as well - the 7 & 9 need fixing and SK needs the time and support from everyone.....
Tinks so you agree on the 9 has to be changed?? Hmmm funny that!!
  • No - don't agree with that.

Andy said that he SK will be after a 7 and 9 for the next few years. Who is to say that hooker won't come from within?
  • Hopefully it does come within so we don't have to go pay overs for another Hooker!!!
    Time will tell....
  • Ant Mitchell hopefully and I believe will excel into a great number
  • Andy - I got excited with the title of your blog

Shades of Buzz Lightyear - "TO INFINITY AND BEYOND'
    *SIGH* wasn't to be tho.

As if - we the fans and supporters - are going to have any sort of influence on SK "building a team he wants"
The major problem SK is going to have is exactly the same problem that faced DA.
Keeping the CEO and board AWAY from the team.

How do you see that DA "overachieved" in 2009?
The team "almost" repeated their run to the semis in 2010.
It was the media who hyped us as title contenders in the 2010 pre season - NOT DA.

If the team is NOT playing to win then get a team that will - very simple solution.
Big names only leave teams when they UNDER perform and deserve the boot - NOT because of the expectations of the supporters.

Gen Y or Z, or whatever title they have today, EXPECT only the best and they want it yesterday so if you think the Eels fans are going to sit back and chill while the team doesn't perform - then guess again sunshine.

BTW - didn't I hear that membership has dropped for 2011 - - I posted months ago that this would be the case based on our 2010 performance.
