NEW LEADERSHIP

I know this blog might cause some controversy, but I am just throwing it out there. Before you read on, I am not saying this because we lost one game...

Before I get to the present year, let me go back to the 2001 GF. Parra were smashed by Newcastle because, by their own admission, they were shitting themselves before kick-off.

2005 Prelim Final - First half, they again played very nervously.

2009 Grand Final - See 2005 Prelim Final.

2010 - In the Daily Telegrph, and on the Footy Show last night, Hindmarsh said they were nervous about tonights game. WTF??? Nervous before a Round 1 clash?? We are not going to win a comp if the players are nervous before a game like tonights. It's Round 1 FFS.

Brad Fittler in tonights commentary even said it himself. He was at Parra training yesterday, and he said they looked nervous, not much talk.

This worries me a whole heap. If they think the expectation on them was big tonight in Rd 1, they have got no hope in October, if they make it that far...

Which gets me to my point. Do we need a new captain? I am worried that Cayless will never get the team to a poiint where they have that Melobourne / Brisbane killer instinct in them

  • Nah Cayless is a legend and a great leader. Its only round 1, give him time.
  • He can achieve that without being captain.
  • Give him time? He's been captain for half the decade.
  • Cayless had his best game in terms of contact - hit ups and tackles - I have seen in a few seasons.

He made good ground and the only blemish was a dropped ball when he got smashed by I think Hunt.
  • The guys being nervous is not Cayless's fault. That is a management thing...

Cayless has been a model leader and captain, he is held in high regard from his team mates, the club, legends and fans. Now he may be past his best when it comes to his running (and ball handling), but his leadership is A1
  • Cayless is a traditional slow starter but was awesome tonight. Made 2 mistakes unfortunately but one of the best forwards for sure

He simply can;t be dropped as catain... Firstly there is simply no outstanding candidiate to take his place and secondly, dropping him may have and avderse effect on the team simialr to Fitzgiboon at the rooters
