Nervous wait for Hayne

Jarryd Hayne has argued he was unable to pull out of the tackle that saw his knees collect Bryson Goodwin in the head. Hayne will be hoping to avoid no more than a grade one dangerous contact charge if he is to avoid a suspension that would tragically result in him missing the grand final.''We were both going for the ball and I think I didn't get in the best position to get out of his road and there was nothing else I could do,'' Hayne was quoted as saying.''I know I hit him hard but there was no malice in it. He was coming across for the ball and I accidentally kneed him. Hopefully the judiciary will see there was no malice in it. I was going for the ball. I'll just have to wait and see on Monday.''A grade one dangerous contact charge probably appears the most likely result at this stage. It carries a 100 point penalty but an early plea and the subsequent 25 per cent discount would assure him of avoiding suspension. However, if Hayne cops a Grade two dangerous contact charge or is charged with dropping the knees, he will miss he grand final.

  • it was a pure accident and im sure any normal person agrees hayne isnt dirty and he will be found not guilty
  • i don't think the NRL will be stupid enough to to suspend the games #1 player, the #1 drawcard from a grand final.. there was no intent in this tackle, billy slater has done a lot worse and gotten away with it..Thruston did one on origin which left our winger with a bleeding lip and he got away with it
  • I was just watching that crappy news show on Channel 9 - is it the Today show? And Steve Mortimer was on reviewing the game. His thoughts was that is was reckless more than anything and Hayne would cop a grade one charge which would mean he could still play in the GF.
  • they cant just take him out........that would be just STUPID, it would make no sense wat so ever.......HAYNE has got to play
  • My fear is that Cam Smith missed the GF last year. The NRL will not intervene if Hayne is charged and misses the GF
  • I just pray and hope to god that the judiciary are realistic and dont try to make an example of him as one of the poster boys of league still being treated harshly and that there is noone who is untouchable. I agree with Hayne's comments as you can see that he was already in that position and had launched himself before Goodwin's head was there. GO HAYNE and GO PARRA!!!!
  • the fact that we made it to the gf is great but a possible hayne suspension is ruining celebrations =( very nervous w8
  • They made Cameron Smith sit out last year's GF in a stance against grapple tackles, it wouldn't surpise me if they do the same for Hayne. That would be devastating, and I dont think the Eels can win without him.
    • me too, justice will be served.it was bullshit the way parra were treated last night. it will only make us stronger mate.DON'T WORRY BE HAPPY i know it is hard but we will be alright.LETS STICK IT UP THEM BASTARDS!!!!

  • I think he'll get a grade 1 charge, so an early guilty plea will get him no suspension. I don't think the nrl can get away without charging him, but I'm positive they won't suspend him for the grand final.
