THE rugby league world is waiting with bated breath to learn what punishment the NRL will hand down to Parramatta for breaching the salary cap.

With an announcement expected within the fortnight, rumour have been rife concerning possible penalties.

The latest development has eight competition points being taken off the Eels for 2016, which would take them from their current 12 down to just two.

A club legend isn’t happy with that suggestion.

HINDY: EIGHT POINT STRIP TOO LENIENT

Parramatta legend Nathan Hindmarsh believes stripping the Eels of eight competition points would be too lenient.

Hindmarsh, who played 330 games for the club, says the NRL must ensure the Eels do not play finals in 2016 if they are serious about penalising them for salary cap breaches.

“(The NRL has) got to make sure they don’t make the semi finals,” Hindmarsh said on Fox Sports.

“It’s going to have to be more than eight, otherwise you think what’s the point of doing it anyway.

“Why don’t they wait until the end of the year, so they’ve played everyone twice, then they say these are the points you’ve lost.

“There was nothing worse than playing against the Storm when they had no points to play for.

“It was weird feeling, because they had nothing to play for.”
