The ref said it wasn't a genuine attempt at tackle. Apparently that's the rule. Can't just run up and knock the kicker over, it needs to be a proper tackle.
I don’t think so. The whole NRL rules and interpretations are a joke. Roosters hooker shoulder charges Titans bloke, breaks his nose and no sin bin, side show Bob hits a bloke across the head when the rooster is 20 cm off the ground and same charge, a penalty, ridiculous. Fifita scores and it is disallowed due to the BS inside shoulder crap, when the decoy stopped before the line. Cleary kicks and his hit by a fair committed hit and it is a penalty, complete BS. Isaah Yeo tackles a bloke and the blokes head gets accidentally caught up in Yeo’s chest and it is an on report crusher penalty, complete BS.
I tell you what. Renolyds has had a blinder. Been better than Cleary by a country mile. His running game in shape has been incredible. He has done all the work in the middle for his outside backs to score
Penrith were well off. To quote BA they didn't "chase the collision". Souths ran harder, had better line speed in defence and much better first up contact. Simple as that. Penrith tried to play pretty and tried to find easy answers.
I hope our boys watched that and saw that it was pure aggression that got Souths the win.
As a said earlier I would rather face panthers than souths next week if we manage to win tomorrow. They will be under so much pressure next week, either they step up and will totally out play us or they will tighten up under the pressure and we will be right in it. There is a real smugness about ivan cleary and a sense of entitlement amongst his players.
100% i have grown to really dislike ivan over the past few seasons, it started with the way he left the tigers stranded and then the way he reacted to tigers fans by blowing kisses was the tipping point.
Has been for years.... the media darling.... I wonder how many in the media will be saying Cleary didn't stand up again in a big game..... none I'd say

They won't say anything about Cleary playing bad. It will be everyone else's fault but his
The rule is you have to wrap your arms in making the tackle on a kicker, pushing or forceful shoulder contact is always a penalty its simple. If anyone is to blame it's the defender for making a poor effort, cause it wasnt ruled late or high
Think it's a bit of a reach sayin clearly is protected. But these 'crusher' tackles are doin my head - refs have no idea about footy nous. Tackles in the air are similar. U can't make rules black & white like they want to
"I think Paulo still making like 950k and then you got matterson 650k doing nothing, little things like that probably throwing it out of wack. Doesn't sound like we need much room just a bit to get nas in "
"If we are not phased we must have options, but those options are not clear. Unless Ryles sees more importance using the money for depth and forwards instead of a Winger?
I would rather just keep him as he makes the team better."

I am really starting to hate the NRL.
