Nathan Brown is the new Tim Mannah

Remember in 2019? Tim Mannah started the year on the bench, a constant top 17 player for us. One game agains Penrith in round 9, he was dropped never to be seen again. Brown is heading down the same path. Ryan Matterson out, Brown in? Nope, instead it seems Rodwell is favoured over Brown (not that is an issue though), Brown is now it seems on his way out for sure, no chance of redemption. BA has been ruthless and moved on and well let's hope Greig and Ogden get game time like Rodwell by years end as we need all them come next year considering the options in free agency, it is slim. Lodge would have been a nice addition for 2023 but now cannot happen so Greig and Ogden hopefully can replace Kaufusi and be better than him.

But as for Browny, thank you for your service, unfairly treated? Perhaps.

  • This is why i scoff at old timers who express lament at the lack of loyalty displayed by players in today's game. Clubs are ruthless, they say "business is business" and treat a player they can't or don't want to fit under their cap as used goods. So spend the bank on Matto make life so uncomfortable for Brown, he leaves.
    Business hey.

    • If we win then nobody will think of it, we lose and people will notice as thinking "well Brown is better than these players" etc.

    • Yep, that's it. It is a cold hard reality.

      • "Old timers lament" I could sell that!

    • My Bob, exactly.

"It's just business, it's not personal" is a common facade to hide more uncomfortable truths.

Oddly enough, that's often more acceptable than a player telling a club: "I'm just here for the business; the highest bidder. As soon as I get a better deal, I'm outta here."

It's no surprise we see player managers, the PLPA, and the likes of Gutho playing contract games, and holding clubs to ransom. Ice left as soon as he got a great deal with the basket-case of a club, West Tigers. Ahh, sheet, I give up.

      For me, it's sad.

Consider Brown put his body on the line for us for six years. And for most of that he was our forward leader; statistically, we were far better with him than without. He was a warrior. That's built on passion and being mentally there and performing. No player worth his salt is there only for the money.

So, I'm still wondering what's happened behind the curtains to cause his quite sudden fall and seemingly being on the nose with the club: age, body, mind, personality clashes, a mix, or all of them?

      • HOE you see it a lot in the NFL, Mercenaries as they call it. Go to whoever pays the most money and gives their all. But if when the contract is up and someone offers more they leave and take it.

As long as they give their all good on them.

      • Ahh Givers and takers HOE .I was in Coles today looking for some frozen blueberries. I was lucky to hook a nice Coles chap loading some shelves and asked him for some help as it appeared that they ran out of stock. The chap spent a good 10 to 15 minutes trying to help me the old fella out. Wonderful person who I would promote if I owned Cole's.

Good you raised the point mate.Loyalty to what and who

        • Exactly TAD. And it relates to what LB said.

At the end of the day, whatever you're doing, you have to do your best, and then try do whatever you can to get better.

But for me, you can never put too much faith or trust in men or women who do things just for money.

They could switch from ally to foe in a the blink of an eye; depending on who gives them the biggest bag of 30 coins. They'll always be capped in what they can actually achieve, too.

Part of being the best we can be is putting all of ourselves in something. Damn right it's bloody personal. Just my view. Not necessarily right.

          • HOE I read a story about Gerry Hall being very upset about her breakup with 90 year old Murdoch  She received an email from  Murdoch to say the realtionship is over She says she is devastated as she still loves him. Hmmm

  • Its a conspiracy - Sack BA..
