Nathan Brown

Nobody can doubt this guys courage and even speed at the line. He has been our best forward fir several years. But just one thing I noticed that is severely hampering us and his game right now. Watch the game on Friday and you will see he gets put on his back every single time which results in a slow play the ball and stops our momentum. The reason he always gets put on his back is because he backs into the defense. It's costing us big time and hopefully someone's showing him this. He virtually never plays the ball from his knees and elbows.

  • Need Timmy Mannah to give him a bit of coaching.

  • The whole team was being put on their back and had slow play the balls last night. Goes back to playing easily readable short power plays  from dummy half all night allowing Penrith to get 3-4 people in each tackle.

  • Ever thought that the opposition know they have to slow him down and generally slow his play the ball down on purpose, Riff is one of the teams who have perfected the time in the tackle without getting penalised, the aspect is that with players of NB's abililities it that they generally have him on his back more times than not in tackles, as such hard to get up quickly with your hands and knees.

    • Watch him next week Col, he nearly always turns his back to the defense which make it even easier to put him on his back as yes its every teams tactic to put players on the back and slow the play the ball. If he and others were getting their heads through the line then it makes it harder for teams to put them on thier backs and more chance of us getting penalties. The positive of him turning his back is that he can offload easier.

    • Coryn, what I am seeing is that Nathan runs fast, hard and very upright, generally though he has lacked support with forwards going with him, which has him constantly being tackled, he needs support runners with him on each side especially when he is taking on the opposition, in the past when he had the support with him he was not targetted with as many in the defence, meaning he could get up quicker and play the ball.

He needs to have RC/Jnr running hard first and then NB, with either Matto or Lane coming up on the edges. The riff were able to have most of the forwards holding our forwards at bay as there were few attempts in getting the ball away on the run. Too much off side play from the riff and then the ref who did not make even decisions.

      • Both of you are correct. Its exactly why going one out for 5 tackles is a problem.

          • You bring back memories of a little live wire half who unceremoniously got pushed out by Brad  after challenging the way he was forced to play Coryn.

            • Also was a shocking defender and had zero game Management. But he would do well in current rules

              • Sandow might have hated tackling Coryn but he had the BEST low tackle in the comp when he was on.

Cut everyone down like a scythe.

He just did not do it often enough.

          • What happened to the Joey affect with our halves?
