  • It'd be awesome to keep Semi, but only if it's at the right price. Team balance wins games more consistently than waiting for a freak performance.

If Semi wants a bidding war to get the highest dollar then we'll probably lose him. If Semi likes the culture and plan at the Eels and appreciates all they've done for him and his career, then he'll likely stay.

The ball is in his court with this. But we can't pay overs, it has screwed us over too many times in the past.
    • U have pretty well covered my thoughts on Semi Capt.
IMO if a player's primary focus is on money then it is best to let him go & chase the coin. It takes a very special talent for a player to be driven primarily by money & then use his natural talent on the field to continually enhance the monetary value of that talent, aka SBW.

  • I agree. Unless he genuinely wants to leave I think we should be trying to keep him. The impact he had after coming back from injury says it all. I can't remember the last time he had a bad game. I'd rather be paying him 500k than 2 average wingers/centres 250k.

We spend a lot of time and effort developing these players. We should be trying to keep them.

Of course he is going to try and get more money. He knows what he could potentially earn. Who wouldn't look around if they new they could potentially grab a significant pay rise.
  • As Captain said, as long as we're not paying him well overs then yes. I feel like giving him kicking duties would entitle him to a higher pay check, more responsibility and a higher sense of worth. From all the pictures we see, he seems to enjoy being at Parra, the whole money debacle seems like he just wants it in order to make his sick fathers life more comfortable.

Hopefully we'll be seeing an extension from him and Manu.
  • Broncos are collapsing
Even with half the Qld SOO side they aren't top four
Bennett is past it and will retire in s few years
The NRL is starting to crack down on their cap rorting
Why would anyone want to go there now
    Look what happened to Roberts

    Semi is not a winger
He plays wing, centre forward all in the one game
    And soon he will kick
    He earns his money
Match the Broncos and throw the Coiterie at him
If he builds his brand he has much more upside at Parra

    Etc etc etc
    • I see your pints Wile, but not sure they are collapsing....benny usually gets what he wants. Not sure the NRL is cracking down on anyone....but we live in hope. Wonder if Broncs watching Penrith and Griffin going well...
    • Willie, one can pretty well agree with your assessment of Semi the player, so no argument there, Bennent has indicated his current contract is his last, think there's 2 years left in it.  There's little doubt that a lot of gloss has gone off him but still would not write him off.  Not too sure though the mules as such are collapsing, there is certainly problems but to what extent is another matter.

The cap situation may bring him undone earlier and if its found out he's involved then he may decide to accept an early retirement offer. He has rejected Walters as an assistant as he's looked at as Bennent's succesor so who know's.

Thing will come down to where Semi actually wants to play, does he see himself an eel, is he happy here, what of the rumours about his discontentment here, how does he get on with Jennings and the like, his family aspects and all.

Other thing that may affect him is the pending court situation with his partner and child, he is likely still without his passport, a lot of stuff in the mix that needs to be dealt with.

  • if the broncos are only offering 500k base, there should be absolutely no reason we can't match it and keep him....the ONLY reason he'll go on $ is if we can't match TPAs again ala hayne...and if that happens i'll flip because it's the broncos

  • Semi makes money for the club gets everyone out there seat and his best winger since burt at the club keep him must 500000 cheap for what he does he get 18 or more tries year get us going of kick return his must kerp and hunt does not do what what semi can and fogarty can play halfback my dtep dad around orner from burligh bears watch few games say just got ee can bring it to nrl what does qld cup semi could play fullback he be great at it line brakes make be great

  • Question, if we need to pick between keeping Semi or Manu what would your do?  As much as I love everything that Manu does for us and as much as I believe has shown the greater commitment to the club I can't honestly say i'd keep him if it means losing Semi.

I'm not giving up hope on keeping both but the longer these signings take the more ominous it is beginning to appear.
