MRI Scan Update

Hi Folks, I recently shared a blog about having to have an MRI Scan of my prostate and as I'd never previously had an MRI Scan I was extremely nervous. The overwhelming support and encouragement I received from all you folks was really tremendous and helped me deal with having the scan.

I had my scan yesterday and in all honesty I found it quite good except of course for the loud banging noises but overall it wasn't as bad as I thought. So thanks everyone for your support and encouragement.  Finally the results from my MRI scan today we're not that great. The scan comes back with number ratings between 1 to 5 with 5 being the strongest possibility of your prostate having some cancer. I had 1 spot which is 3mm in size with a number 4 rating which indicates high possibility of this spot being cancerous. The next step is to have a biopsy done on my prostate to determine the accuracy of the MRI scan which are generally extremely accurate. So folks that's my current status. I was extremely upset when hearing the news as you can imagine as I'm hoping to live at least another 10, 15 or even 20 years would be great. I'm not 100% certain of life expectancy with prostate cancer. Anyway folks I just thought I'd let you know the update. I'll let you know later the biopsy results. Please keep me and my wife in your thoughts and prayers. I would really appreciate it.

  • Hey PT, thanks for sharing your news. I know it's not exactly what you were hoping for, but remember to stay positive. Nothing is confirmed, so try to keep on with your life as best you can.

    • Thanks Meelk for the encouragement. I really appreciate it. I'm trying to remain calm and positive.

  • Thanks for sharing PT. Always extremely difficult when anyone receives news that isn't great..I hope people are kind to you knowing your private circumstances.  and you get through this ok

    • Thanks Tad. So far people have been very nice. Its the mind battle that I find the most difficult. Not knowing 100% even though MRI scans are extremely accurate. The other concern is what happens next after the biopsy etc... I know men can live without a prostate but there are obvious side effects. My sister in law's brother had his prostate removed some years ago and is apparently coping ok with life. It's certainly not easy mate to deal with but there are no doubt so many other people worse off than I am. I'm grateful for every breath and every day I have with my family

      • When in doubt mate try and get as much information as you can. Sometimes you can get some perspective that can alleviate unwarranted concerns. I am a worrier as well so I can understand where you are coming from,

  • PT, take care of yourself and it really does sound like your Dr's are on top of everything. From experience " Im no Doctor" if its  okay to share with you here, if you have 1 spot and its very small as indicated from what your saying then its curable mate. I'm a stats man and they tell me that prostate cancer caught early has a 10 year survival rate of 98%. They are great odds in any ones language. Chin up.

    • Thanks Blue Eel appreciate your thoughts and a 10 year survival rate of 98% are extremely great stats. I'll try keep my chin up

      • Trooper naturally I wish you the very best but their are a few things must not do and I'm telling you from experience .

Don't go online and google things because you will end up reading a load of bullshit from untrained people and depress yourself .

Don't ever under any circumstances go on any forums about Prostate cancer because those forums are predominantly filled with sick people who pretend they had prostate cancer or their relative had it and will  make up worst case scenarios to scare innocent people like yourself .

Listen to people on this site who you know have been on here for as long as yourself or longer because these people are not going to bullshit to you or try and scare you .

I wish you nothing but the best .

        • Agree with Fong here especially about the online diagnosis bit.

A few years ago I was getting twitches all over my body and after reading about possible illnesses I had convinced myself I had motor neuron disease. I thought I was a gonner. Luckily the twitching stopped a few weeks later and I've been great ever since. No idea what I had tbh and I didn't go to the Dr either as I was shit scared of a bad diagnosis....

Morale of the story is don't self diagnose always go get a few professional opinions.

  • Hi PT, Thanks for sharing mate and many emotions run through you I'm sure.
Early prognosis and work done can help so pls stay positive - my old man had prostrate issues yrs ago and had surgery. He's lived from then until now...,so early diagnosis is v important. Get the biopsy and go from there, and well done on sharing here mate. Such an important health issue.
