Dear Mr. Fong

First, I agree with the sentiment (if not the expression) of your complaint. Basically, I'm here to keep up with the news about the Eels; to celebrate their victories, to commiserate their losses, to think-tank what we supporters might contribute to support the Eels better. But the aspect of this site that has jumped out of the screen at me too often is the vindictive, malicious and totally inappropriate language and sentiments with which members assail each other. Thankfully, (and I'm sure other members agree), I'm not a regular reader or poster of comments. It was  in fact, your unique way of expressing yourself Mr Fong, that convinced me to join the One Eyed Eel family. It must have been your 'special' brand of humour, sir.

So, may I say congratulations to whomever conceived and constructed this website. The facilities for posting various formats, the ease of constructing your own page and the access layout are second to none. The editorials are succinct, informative and seem to be strategically on the money. Thank you for your very good work, Phil,  but I am amazed at the vitriol directed at you, who seems struggle at times to keep this rambunctious crew of pirates within the boundaries of normal, civil communication.

Second, I’d like to directly address the issue of comments made on this site. I’ll prelude it if I may, with a little ditty from the past.

I joined the RAN in 1966, just over 51 years ago. I went almost straight from De La Salle Bankstown to recruit training at Flinders Naval depot in Westernport bay. As I’m sure the percipient patrons here will discern, this was a sudden and radical change of atmosphere and world view. Thankfully I survived it and went on to serve on several ships and bases around Australia and overseas. I was reminded of an episode on board by the juvenile behaviour on this site.

In ’69, a few members of my team and I were have a cuppa tea in the mess on board when an unknown seaman approached us. He was a likely lad, probably a Gunner or Stoker but a brash young fellow with plenty of attitude. He walked right over to our table, then pulled out his penis and flopped it on to the table so as to display the STD chancre on the end, saying “whad’ya think of that boys”.

Of course there was much moaning, groaning, ribald comments and laughing then someone said ‘righto, put it away dickhead’. He sized us all up and decided he’d shit-stirred enough and strolled away laughing, with his dick still out.

I saw and heard plenty more of that type of juvenile behaviour over the years. I realised after I got my first tattoo that the older guys had gotten me pissed so that I’d do just that. It seems if you put a bunch of like-minded blokes together they go feral.

So there’s no real surprises or shocks from the unsophisticated/troll/clownish members on this site who think that suggesting incest or urging suicide is a witty and appropriate conversational rejoinder. It’s kiddiesville temper tantrum "I'm so effing tough" language that ceased to impress me decades ago. Posting dikpiks or other crass photos on the site isn’t clever or witty either; it’s just juvenile and ugly and closet gay.  If anyone here thinks any different, they’re even more inane than their limp and badly constructed insults indicate and should stick to porn sites.

So, Mr. Fong, on this matter, I’m with you, except for your insulting Phil, which is ludicrous given the effort he puts in, and your many ridiculously stupid posts and your grossly insulting language and suggestions and your constant claim to complete innocence when you’re at least as guilty if not moreso as the other perpetrators of this type of garbage.

 So, let’s tidy the place up, Mr Fong, and run the idiots and any other passive/aggressive loud-mouthed infants who think they own the place out of town, eh Fong? You tell ‘em loud and clear, eh, Fong; “ Shape up, or ship out”

Oh, and Fongy, give Snickers the rat a pat for me, eh.
