Parramatta officials are confident that halfback Mitchell Moses’ ability to quickly recover from injury will help him defy a calf injury and return ahead of schedule.

The league-leading Eels copped a blow in Saturday’s win over Canberra when Moses suffered a calf injury during the first half.

There were initial fears the star playmaker had ruptured his Achilles tendon when he limped off Bankwest Stadium, but this didn’t eventuate.

Moses is expected to be sidelined for up to four to six weeks, but the NCA NewsWire can reveal that Parramatta officials hold strong hope the halfback will be back playing football in the coming weeks.

He has previously shown an ability to quickly recover from injuries, which is expected to work in his favour with his current calf injury.

Moses started rehabilitation on Monday and the Eels will make a public announcement on his calf injury once they see how it responds to treatment.

New Zealand-born young gun Dylan Brown will play five-eighth in Moses’ absence, but he will also be the team’s general in attack.

Eels coach Brad Arthur has full faith in Brown after he excelled when Moses hurt his calf during the NRL’s lockdown period.

“It allowed Dylan to step up, own the team and take on more responsibility and accountability at training,” Arthur said.

“It has been really good for his confidence.

“An injury to Mitchell during the break in hindsight is going to be a good thing for Dylan long term.”

Parramatta will look to continue their best start to a season since the club’s last premiership in 1986 when they host North Queensland on Friday night.
