Mortimer shows it's not size of Eel in fight

AT THE beginning of the season Daniel Mortimer, just 79 kilograms wringing wet, was pitted against a battle-scarred cage fighter weighing 50kg more. He was out-matched and out-muscled but the Parramatta conditioning team were impressed with their rookie's steely determination as he tried to knock over the man-mountain. It was an especially brave effort as, minutes earlier, one of the cage fighters had splattered Luke Burt's nose with a monster punch. But Mortimer marched in without hesitation or fear. His effort to play - and star - in Friday night's preliminary final has only enhanced his reputation as being a "tough bugger." Eels physio Kieran Morgan admitted there was a concern Mortimer, who scored the match-sealing try, would not make it onto the field. "Did you watch him play in this years final for Souths? He was owned by old man Gagai. Laurel went missing all game although he did pass the ball from dummy half a lot to the other outside backs to work it out of their end. Massive NO."
