Mortimer shows it's not size of Eel in fight

AT THE beginning of the season Daniel Mortimer, just 79 kilograms wringing wet, was pitted against a battle-scarred cage fighter weighing 50kg more. He was out-matched and out-muscled but the Parramatta conditioning team were impressed with their rookie's steely determination as he tried to knock over the man-mountain. It was an especially brave effort as, minutes earlier, one of the cage fighters had splattered Luke Burt's nose with a monster punch. But Mortimer marched in without hesitation or fear. His effort to play - and star - in Friday night's preliminary final has only enhanced his reputation as being a "tough bugger." Eels physio Kieran Morgan admitted there was a concern Mortimer, who scored the match-sealing try, would not make it onto the field.
