More from Matto

Meanwhile, Matterson conceded his future at the Eels was “up in the air” with his role in Brad Arthur’s side changing in 2022.

Matterson has been used off the bench for the past seven weeks but is looking for a permanent move to the lock role – either at the Eels or elsewhere – next season.

“It’s all up in the air at the moment but I’m enjoying my football,” Matterson said.

“As long as I’m on the footy field that’s the main thing. I don’t want to be sitting on the bench for too long, especially when it’s cold like the other day in Canberra.

“I don’t think Parramatta have tabled an offer yet but I don’t want to get amongst that stuff.

“My manager is looking for the best club for me. It's a headache for him. It’s his job to get all the contracts in line and then I’ll make a decision.

"It’s a good position to be in. I know clubs are interested and it’s a good feeling. You want to be wanted."

  • So it's sounds like Matto is after the starting lock position, and fair enough.

Also doesn't sound like he's definitely gone as reported, but Eels yet to table an offer.

    • I was probably a bit harsh on Matto before.

Didn't take into account the starting lock thing.

  • "My manager is looking for the best club for me"

I don't know if Reed can say the same about his.

  • He should be our starting lock.

Brown is not what he was last season. Don't know if it's injury or loss of form but Matterson is the much better option.

I would guarantee him the starting lock position and have Brown on the bench in the prop rotation.

    • Absolutely agree.

Even if it's strategic for BA to have him start from the bench this year, surely it's a given that he's starting lock next year.

    • Spot on.

Brown is either carrying injuries or he's done.

    • Matto has started once at lock against the Titans and it's the worst stats he's put out all year. Way less metres and tackle breaks than off the bench from similar minutes.

I like him off the bench once a game opens up. He needs to check his ego with this starting bullshit

  • “I don’t think Parramatta have tabled an offer yet  ?????

Oh wtf, is tge club serious?  We haven't tabled an off as yet, wtf is the club thinking.   Sorry but this is totally ridiculous
